Hi everyone.

Can anyone tell me why my male lab mounts other male dogs. He don’t do it all the time just sometimes. I’ve been told that it is a dominant thing, if so how can I stop him doing it?

Its not dominance ...it can be excitement and sometimes stress ...
One of my boys does it well he air humps when he gets excited in the morning whilst waiting to go for his walk. ..

Yep - excitement, stress, and general (not necessarily sexual) overarousal.

But there's something about some dogs that can bring it out in others. I've come across a couple of male dogs that my neutered male has tried to hump. One, he's excited by play (he doesn't play with other dogs), the other he thought smelt intoxicating and he was visibly aroused:oops: That dog was on various medications which may have been a factor.

He also tries to hump me if he gets overexcited in play.

As for stopping it - try to recognise when he might do it and call him away. You might have to up your management and recall training to make this work, but it'll be worth it, as even though it's not 'dominance', it can be rather bullying - and it's self rewarding, so the more he does it, the more he'll want to do it in the future.
