Hi

I’m just wondering if anyone has a Chinese crested? If you do I’m sure you know they’re hilarious and loving but have they WORST manners when it comes to other dogs being near them, I like to call her a happy misery!

She is the hardest dog I’ve ever had to house train, if it’s cold now she would much rather do her business in the house, right in front of you, than go brave the wind lol (it’s a good job I love her)

I’ve got a new bitch and Daphne’s(the Chinese crested) not very happy about it, Cookie tries play with her but obviously daphne is way too posh for that! Humans only

Daphne is a very nervous and anxious dog and is a bit of a monster on the lead when she wants to be (tried to bite many of people, mostly strangers)
Obviously I don’t let her get out of hand but it’s just how she is

She is scared of my new bitch because cookies previous owners thought it was hilarious that cookie would attack their other french bulldog over food (absolutely not funny)
Growling to say go away to the other dogs is perfectly acceptable, however Cookie has learned this behaviour and been reinforced for it, she literally stalked Daphne from the other side of the room to attack her when I got a treat out, she didn’t get chance to hurt her because luckily cookie doesn’t want to be in bother (Probably due to being smacked poor girl) so she is a good listener.

Obviously now tho daphne hates her abit more, Daphne will never be best friends with her because she doesn’t even like my older dog too much, she is aloud to sniff them they’re not aloud to sniff her (she is very snooty) so I’m not expecting miracles, just expecting her to ignore cookie like she does elvis lol

Cookie wants to play with daphne but obviously daphne is having NONE of it and cookie doesn’t read her right and tries to play more
I make cookie sit and wait and “LEAVE IT” and she is super good at listening

When they’re out on a walk together you’d never know of the fractions inside

So I think it’s just about unlearning the bad behaviour cookie has already learned (not her fault) and making sure daphne doesn’t be be a cow bag
Also daphne gets her treat first at all times and cookie must wait until she’s finished as if daphne is still eating cookie will go take it and there will end up being a little scrap

Elvis is greedy like cookie and very much a food stealer, he won’t let anybody in his bowl either but he doesn’t attack, just a growl, elvis weighs just abit less than cookie.

Due to elvis being scared of any loud noises in the kitchen he eats his in the hallway anyway and daphne eats hers in the kitchen, always supervised just incase. Elvis is having a sleepover at the min due to cookie being in season (no more babies for this sweet angel).

The Frenchie training is much easier than the crested training, so has anyone got a mean old love bug cece?
Daphne is on the floor in her bed as when she’s on the sofa she gets naughty not wanting to let the other dogs on, it also gives her a height advantage and she takes it in her stride and will bite cookie, however on the floor she’s a little less hard

She’s on the floor so she can get usd to cookie and know that she isn’t going to attack her, she can’t sit on the top of the sofa forever it’s her house too

bloody bitches and their ways! I know there is bound to be scraps at some point they’re dogs after all haha

lots of nice walks will help them get on too

This does sound like a possible recipe for disaster - they seem to be disagreeing over a lot of things and you can't always be there. I think I'd start by removing food from the equation completely. Feed separately, treat separately. Any growling over food means your dogs are stressed - you wouldn't be able to relax if someone was eyeing up your food wondering if they could grab a mouthful.

If Daphne is reacting so often to other dogs and to people, you really are putting her in situations she shouldn't be in. I suspect it's being put into these situations in the first place that makes her so nervous and anxious - she could be a much calmer dog if she knew that you would keep her safe so she didn't have to deal with these things. There's a good resource here: http://careforreactivedogs.com/ She's also not naughty by not wanting other dogs on the sofa - she's just uncomfortable and trying to deal with it. She needs to learn, very gradually, that the other dogs aren't a threat because you won't let them bug her. Rather than just stopping them bugging her when it gets too much, I would actively reward them for not bugging her, for ignoring her.

Just my opinion - I've not had a multi-dog household so this is what I've gleaned from reading this and other forums, but I hope some of it helps :)

Oh wow...you are having some work cut out to get them used to each other and establish routine that they all agree to live with.
I haven't had that breed but know some that do and what I've learned from conversations, they can be very stubborn to change their habits (traits) when they've learned something and they've known not to want to go out when the weather is not for their liking...hence accidents do happen. Some can have very dominant nature so getting them to accept another dog that they've not grown up with can be a challenge.
I don't want to sound all negative but try to identify and neutralize any situations they might react to each other before it even starts. Give them as much as their own space (mental as much as physical) so they can be in relaxed state of mind and less likely to react to each other or to keep tress levels down. If you can keep life on the calmer side, then given time they might grow to tolerate and maybe even happily interact with each other.

The one that does the stalking...I would pick her up as soon as she start and remove her into separate room or cage..and give her little 'cooling down' time...just a minute or two at most. No talking or any fuss...just removing her from from the scene and then let her back, again without fuss and carry on like nothing would not have happened. Repeat as often as it happens and as soon as you see her doing it. She soon learns what that behaviour leads to.
It is not a punishment but a move to correct her behaviour. Keep that habit for that purpose only...do not punish them for their behaviour. It confuses them what you are trying to demonstrate and fear just leads to other problems.

With my terrier girls I will give them 'a chance' by first using vocal command to let them know that I am not happy what they are up to.. and if they still carry on what they are doing...then the treatment there after is a minute in a 'cooler' (cage), repeated as often is necessary until the behaviour stops. Well, it is particularly for my younger one now as older one already knows what is expected from her...younger one knows too but she is still occasionally pushing her boundaries when the playing gets bit too exciting, but usually just a minute is enough to remind her what she has 'forgotten'...

Hi guys thanks for much for your advise I still don’t know how to put a bloody picture on! But for the last week here we have had peace and harmony!, after a few days daphne was no longer scared of cookie and it is infact the other way round now, cookie likes daphne and wants to play but when daphne has had enough a little growl makes cookie leave her alone which is great! A little growl when she is in her space is fine by me!. Cookie has also gotten so much better with food, both daphne and elvis can approach her food bowl and she is no longer bothered by it! (Their biscuits I’ve been putting in the same bowl so they get the smells of eachother, their food they have their own bowls) daphne has decided that cookie must be a little bit comfy as she goes out of her way to sit in the dog bed with her or even on my knee (that’s a squeeze but I love it). Daphne also walks better on the lead now cookie is around, maybe she feels a bit safer. Cookie has learned all our lingo and some tricks and she has really come out of her shell, she’s a playful dope but she listens so well I just love her, my male dog is with her like he is with daphne (he probably thinks he’s a human to be honest) he will happily have a stroke with her on my knee (I get followed everywhere). The most concerning but for me was my cat as she had never seen a cat, so I was expecting to have to work on them together and teach her that he is not a snack, however as soon as she saw the cat she was giving him the play bows, she likes him, he tolerates her (in true cat fashion). Cookie has also made a doggy friend with my sisters staffie who’s got loads of energy too and she goes on runs with her round the field. From being with cookie I can tell she has not been socialised with other dogs very well and didn’t seem to read them properly (daphne would be snapping and she would still be playing) but she has learned, if someone is giving you a little grumble they don’t want to play, so we have had 0 little scraps for weeks now!, cookie and daphne go off lead and here’s a perfect fenced field by me that nobody ever goes on, we go three times a day!. At the start I did the same as you gave a verbal Command, first I said “focus” and if that didn’t work “LEAVE IT”, and if that didn’t work which it didn’t at the start because she wasn’t sure what leave it meant I just put her in the porch for 30 seconds and let her back in, she’s a clever dog.
The biggest trouble maker actually turns out to be my angel Elvis (wouldn’t say that out loud) he is very greedy so I can understand and keep a nasty fight at bay, he eats his stick in the front room, cookie eats hers in the bedroom. Elvis has got to be one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever met he is an unbelievably cute, stubborn, argumentative, CHeeky but so beautiful chap, he’s a Sausage dog x poodle. Elvis keeps trying to sneak past me with his stick to take it into the bedroom only to proceed to be a nobhead (that’s how I know he’s sneaked it away from the growl) but the simple solution to that is sit with him in the room while he eats it (he wants his mom). Chinese cresteds are crazy but my god are they funny and cute, she is a little Tasmanian devil they have the attitude of the chihuahua, she is loyal to the bone and the best guard dog I’ve had, she is fantastic! And yes when she wees and pops in the house in winter because she doesn’t like the rain or the snow (I just take her out with all her layers on and her big coat(she likes it once we get on field) the only issue with Chinese cresteds is they’re so so anxious, that’s where Daphne’s aggression comes from she is nervous about strangers, if we don’t see anyone she’s on her merry way, if we see somebody she doesn’t try bite them anymore so that’s a start but she still has her head down giving them the side eye on the way past, she HATES other dogs out on a walk she is not scared of them she will savage them given the chance, when they’re in her house however she’s much better, strange little dog I do believe she has lead aggression or whatever they call it, she obviously feels she needs to protect me, with cookie being there she doesn’t as much because cookie is alert too, Elvis doesn’t have a care in the world he knows he’s gorgeous and the more people the better! More strokes!.
Walking with three dogs was a challenge to start with as daphne is a bit of a pain in the arse sometimes, but I got a bum bag for treats and poo bags and it had a little Daphne’s lead sized clip on it so she gets clipped to me now, the other two walk beautifully (until elvis doesn’t want to go that way or wants to go back home for a big treat and breaks his harness and runs back to the door :) ) if I knew how to put pictures on I would
Proud of myself and my dogs n cat cookie has put 4 pound on since I got her! She weighs 1st 8 and elvis weighs 1st 4 she weighed the same as him when she got here, she has put loads of muscle on especially on her back end, you wouldn’t know she had a shit life before!

Thank you for the update...nice to hear how people get on with their hard work and even better when they come with good news too. Fingers crossed that your domestic doggy bliss will carry on in harmony!

Cookie weighs 1st 9 pounds now and her true character has shone through, she is a different dog she is a maniac (in a good way), she would play and eat all day and she has got much mote confident around men. The trio is perfect
