She would always carry her head low and had pain around the neck and back. I think she was eating ok and initially would go for walks but it got gradually worse. After reading some stuff on the internet I kept suggesting to my vet that it might be meningitas but he always thought it was...
One of my dogs has had meningitas twice. each time it started with symptoms similar to those you described. The first time took weeks to diagnose but the second time we knew the signs so she was treated quickly with steroids.
Thank you for all the suggestions and sharing your experiences. I think initially I will look at house sitters as I dont think my 2 spoilt brats will be happy in kennels. Now need to convince the wife about having strangers staying in the house.
We decided this year it would be nice to take a week holiday overseas as we have not had one since we got the dogs 4 years ago. Our 5 year old whippets have never slept anywhere apart from home so we are a bit nervous about leaving them in kennels.
Has anyone gone through the same experience...
My back garden is paved. Although the dogs are out there most of the day they wait for their walks to pee. The only exception is in the morning, we then have a small patch with gravel and bark and they pee there.
I have 2 whippets and Jake often tried to nip other dogs on the rear while chasing/playing with them. It was never hard enough to cause injury but obviously some owners were not amused. Fortunately he has grown out of it now he is 3.5 years old and only rarely tries to nip his sister but never...
Thanks Eve, that does help. It is a flap of skin but not through to the muscle or flesh. We are bathing with salt water and it doesnt bother him. Just bathed tonight and the cotton wool had no blood on it so I think it is now dry.
Hi Fallenangel
I hope your dog recovers ok.
My two whippets had a scrap this morning and one has a wound a lot like the one in your second picture. There is a flap of skin torn about an inch square. We are debating if it needs vet treatment or we should keep it clean and it will heal or to...
Izzy came home from Animal Health Trust on Tuesday. She has been away from home for 10 of the last 12 nights.
She has had nearly every test possible - MRI, spinal tap, 2 x ultrasound, 3 x xrays, blood tests, urine tests and more. All have been clear and no diagnosis has been 100% confirmed. She...
MRI has been done and results are clear, like every other test.
The vet there thinks its likely to be Meningitis, spinal tap will be done tonight and results analysed in the morning.
And a word of advice for others. Luckily Izzy is insured, the bill so far is just short of £5,000. Even if she wasnt insured I am in a position to pay whatever to get her well, but for others I'm sure it could be a struggle.
Thank you for all the replies
Izzy has been referred to the Animal Health Trust near Newmarket. They have the results of all the tests that have been conducted so far and will be doing an MRI and and probably a spinal tap.
Fingers cross they find something as our little princess is very...
