we took some of the dogs to burrs country park today 4 were on the lead and lacey of trotting at the side of my chair as normil she was in hand reach so as cloes as if she was on lead. we were going along a path by the stream loads of people about kids running round dogs on and off lead all fine. we walked past a little black and tan terrior the owner put his arm outr allowing his dog to reach lacey as we past next thing it jumps up bits her on the leg as she jumped back it got her on the chest. the chest is a nasty bruse but the thighs has broken the skin. we actualu hadnt realsied it had maid contact with her for a few secons as lacey had actuly past the dog and was walking away she had completly ignored it and the dog hadnt barked. we took her back to the car and fixed her up but could still here this litte git of a dogthen having a go at others after so we had to warn peoepl when we whent back after seeing to lacey the dog and owner had gone. why oh why carnt they muzzle or at least pull back nasty dogs so you know to give them a wide birth. we were on the foot path just going past he let his dog come over to us and fater it had bit lacey just stood there like it was normail if lacey had gone over to the dog or show any interets in it but she didnt do anything just pass it. peopel will thing oh how sweet little dog little git. and 20 minets later my lot were playing with a staffy and a pitbull cross owned by 2 young lads. no problem just shows its not the breed its the owners theres dogs were well traned socila and loved were you could tell the litte terrier probly only come out on sunday day and had no socila skills neather did its own i am still fumming

Poor Lacey :( It just makes you so mad  Hope she's on the mend soon & doesn't have any lasting mental scars!

That dog should have been muzzled!  Don't know why people with aggressive dogs don't do this? Why give yourself the hassle of having a dog that may cause a person or another animal an injury? My daughter (3 years old) was determined to stroke a collie the other week. We asked the owner if it was o.k and she sounded a bit doubtful, but said it would be alright so long as we didn't touch the head. My girl's hand just touched the dog's shoulder and, if I hadn't pulled her back, I think it would had taken her hand off!! So, in fact, rather than just being a bit 'funny' when its head was touched, this dog would bite anyone who went even slightly near its neck. Another one that should have been muzzled. Why won't people accept that they have a dangerous dog and act accordingly?

Hope Lacey is feeling better and is not put off her walks with you :( Poor girl it must have really shocked her.

we have a dog that bits rubys a sod shes allways muzzled when out and even then she stay on lead and we try and avoid lots of dogs and people thats why she wasnt with us today. it was so buzzy today a kid could of easly spooked that dog and got bit. tere were lots of kids with dogs about aswell that could have had somthing happen> i am realy mad just pure stuppidity of the owner IF ruby had been with us and we took her muzzle of that dog would ahve had no head left but. i realy flet like going getting her i was that mad but we actuly wouldnt but i bet he would ahve said somthing if we had

poor Lacey :( it does look quite nasty, hope she recovers soon enough :luck:

as for the stupid man

Oh god that's so awful, its owners like that which ruin it for the rest of us! My little flax is a bit funny with other dogs and I always keep her on the lead and walk away from other dogs, but I always have the problem of ignorant owners doing the same thing, either letting thier dog out to the end of its lead so it comes up to her, or just letting an off lead dog come barrelling up to her, this does not help her training one bit! luckily she's better than she used to be but I still try my hardest to keep other dogs safe, why can everybody not have some politeness if they know their dog is not always friendly and keep it on a lead???! it really frustrates me

...sorry bit of a rant...

Hope your dog recovers well and isn't now afraid :luck:

Poor Lacey! We met an idiot n Sunday, we were over some fields and I could see he had a very boisterous dobermann so put Kendall on the lead. His dog came tearing over to us - he didn't even call it back!! It was barking and growling and lungng forward but luckily didnt make contact but Kendall wa totally freaked and was running round my legs and pulling to try and get away. The man them came over and told me it was my fult for having my dog on a lead and that I was unfair not letting my dog off!!! I pointed out to him my dog did go off lead when there were no dogs to intimidate him and that his dog had scared him

Hi Fallenangel

I hope your dog recovers ok.

My two whippets had a scrap this morning and one has a wound a lot like the one in your second picture. There is a flap of skin torn about an inch square. We are debating if it needs vet treatment or we should keep it clean and it will heal or to keep it covered. Did yours need vet treatment?

Any advice welcomed

I always take mine to the vets for an antibiotic for a dog bite. My dog Peat (RIP) and his sister Misty used to scrap a lot when they were younger. The first time it happened, Misty was bitten on the neck. I bathed the bite with salty water and kept it clean but Misty developed Septicemia (blood poisioning) within 48 hours and nearly died. Aparently, dogs teeth are full of germs. If only the skin is torn but the muscle / flesh underneath is not damaged you may be OK just bathing regularly with salty water. If there is a puncture into the muscle or flesh, you would probably be better going to the vets. Wounds should be left open so that they can drain and heal nautrally covering wounds up can lead to bacteria breeding and the wound becoming infected.

Hope that this helps

Thanks Eve, that does help. It is a flap of skin but not through to the muscle or flesh. We are bathing with salt water and it doesnt bother him. Just bathed tonight and the cotton wool had no blood on it so I think it is now dry.

That is good, Just keep it clean and bathe it for a few days leaving it open to the air and it should be OK. Just keep an eye on your fellow for the next couple of days for any signs that he may have an infection such as warm nose / off his food / heat or redness in the area of the wound etc.

Glad to be of help

as long as its just a skin tear keep it clean maluka honey is good stuff to put on it. we allways carry a firts aid kit with sterile water you can never have to much watre cleaning it out and a good antispetic cleaning stuff as the faster its cleaned the better then wound powder on it till we get home then its cleans and checked its just a skin wound anything else goes strate to the vet. . if its clean not weeping or looking swollen or getting more sore looking it fine but any douts go to your vet. I prefare my dogs arnt stiched if its not deep as i think it heals better and if theres anything nasty in there it can gte out hope your guys feeling ok some nice treets make bites much better ask any doggy they will telll you lol
