I do the same at an ungodly early hour. It’s quite cool by the river here but Mabel’s taking it slowly - she’s now nine. I’ve picked an unfortunate time for a complete ensuite overhaul - noise and dust.

There’s nothing of finesse re my using the iPhone for photography. The slo-mo feature is amazing. I use it for waves and seagulls accompanying the boat back to St Mawes. If you have the feature give it a whirl. I’d show you my results here but I don’t know how.
Good for you, JoanneF. Please let us know the eventual outcome. I’ve only come across one instance of a cat bringing down a bat. Because of the fauna in the woodland behind us George (our rescued cat) has a bell on his collar.
In fact, I used to give instructions to our previous two whippets in Spanish and Welsh - ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ - but I think it was more likely that the hand gestures and treats which did it! Bless them - miss them like mad.
I also talk to birds, hedgehogs, spiders, etc. I tend to swear in Spanish as well ‘cos it doesn’t cause offence although some months ago in our local Waitrose a lady who was ‘dithering’ infront of me turned and said, “Me voy enseguida, lo siento”. That’ll learn me.
