Westhoughton reopened today and apart from a few teething problems at the start, trials got underway and everything went smoothly. The track had been stood since the previous management left and after a couple of spins round with the tractor looked great again. Some work is being done this week on the banking and more trialing is planned for Wednesday.

The whippet club will be back on, on Saturday 4th February for anyone who wishes to come for trials - all welcome!

As soon as we've had the start time confirmed tomorrow i will post.

What good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!a great start to the new year hope it continues --- :luck: :luck: good luck to new owners --- :luck:

Trials / Racing confirmed for this Saturday 2pm start. An idea of the amount of dogs attending would be helpful.

Just to let everyone know, the club racing will go ahead as planned today, the track is fine

just got back from wessy weather freezing but track was perfect, compliments to Kevin the new track owner (he has really put some work in there)and he even brewed up for us

A good day trialing yesterday (i can say that now i've thawed out lol), i think all the whippets were glad to be back and burn off a bit of energy.

I think there were just short of 20 dogs which wasn't bad at all considering some people didn't risk travelling in the bad weather. The track had been heavily salted on Friday and was brilliant, put the licensed track i was at last night to shame.

Same time next week folks

Will see you all next week as long as the weathers ok

Just got a call to say that there are parts of the home straight near the inside rail that are frozen so we will have to cancel for today.

They will be putting more salt on again today and we will hopefully be able to race tomorrow after the greyhound trials.

Anyone wanting to run tomorrow please phone before setting off 07852 328020 or 07539 215674

Start time tomorrow 12.30, entries from 12.15

A brilliant turnout of 40 dogs for todays meeting.

Beside the Point, Midnight Maid, What's Your Rush, Make it Four, Little Guess, Harry & a pedi all having handslips and chasing well - Harry coming on a treat in his training, extremely keen.

Petra & Connie the Ibizan Hound & Pharoah Hound both had a couple of runs, first run was over 6 bends and went well - Petra got her money's worth! lol

A brilliant race between these three with Mad jack powering home to just get beat on the line by Twisted Sister.

Mo Carlin Sc

She's a Flyer 3

Whiskey Fudge 6 - 16.28

Another good race with Whiskey Fudge just hanging on from Mo Carlin

Mighty Run Sc

Miles Away Sc - 15.53

Miles out trapped Ollie and looked strong to lead all the way.

The pedi's sorted their own racing out and all managed to get a couple of runs in.

The track, although running slow due to being well salted and harrowed yesterday was looking great, a brilliant testament to the amount of work Kevin and his gang have put in. 57 greyhounds trialing this morning and no injuries.

Hopefully see a lot of people at our open next Sunday so that they can see for themselves what a good safe track this is.

Our next race meeting will take place on Saturday 25th at 2pm. All members welcome - old & new. This will be a trophy meeting with prizes for non peds, peds, lurchers and most improved newcomer. We'll also be holding a raffle.

Everyone gathered in the cafe for warm drinks and a chat before racing commenced and we were presented with an immaculately prepared track once again by Kevin and his team, Kev is doing everything he can to promote our club and some of his friends came down to spectate with their whippets and seemed to really enjoy the day, taking a keen interest in all the dogs and the times they were clocking.

Special thanks to those that donated raffle there were 8 prizes up for grabs and it proved popular so we'll do this again next week, also thanks to Keith, Craig, John, Mick, Tony, George & Mark who all helped out on the traps, trip and handslipping and everyone else who helped out in one way or other. It's nice to see the club getting so much support and lots of mad keen newcomers who seem to have been bitten by the racing bug - hope you all enjoyed your day.

There will be a Greyhound & Whippet Shop opening in the next few weeks at the track and i'm sure Kev will do a roaring trade with us lot :sweating:
