Barney is a big dog who puts heart and soul into playing ball. He doesnt race. A few times he has appeared to "pull" something and limp. When this has happened we havent let him run. Always seems to get better.

At vets last Thursday for annual booster. Mentioned it. Vet had a feel and couldnt find anything. After our run yesterday, which was i thought incident free, Barney was laying on the living room floor, wagging his tail and showing off his beautiful white belly when i noticed bruising on his inner thigh. It feels like a hard/swollen area too.

He seems oblivious to this thankfully.

How long should we just lead walk?

Its bizarre that theres no limping.

Thanks

It sounds like he's ripped or dropped his gracilus (sp) muscle to me .....A greyhound vet would be your best bet :luck:

Thanks for your replies.

Short of just looking on the internet, is there a database of greyhound specialist vets? Im in Doncaster.

Thanks

Try getting hold of Robert Meek, he's from Tamworth but travels up and down the country , where from Leeds and he met us just off the motorway near Wakefield . He goes to North Allerton a lot so will be on the A1 and will fit you in . He charges £10 to check your dog over . TEL NO 07773327353

Lovely to come back on site and see k9 working at it's best. Facebook is a bit full of idle chatter.

Nothing like k9 for questions, help and knowledgeable advice

This is my dogs gracilis tear which ive been told was a bad one , he did it on a greyhound track .

Thank you all so much again for your replies.

Eve - I agree - very helpful

Trish - thanks for the phone number and pics. Barneys is more centre of thigh and toward his bits (!!) rather than down his leg.

Not bruised as bad as in the pics. There is a lump though. More through feel than visual.

I think the fact he's limped on a few occasions (bruise/lump free) and now the light bruising and hard lumpy area, is a warning of the start of a partial tear (from what I've read today!) so we will seek advice to try and prevent worse damage.

Will let you all know how he gets on.

How's Barney doing , did you get him checked ?

How's Barney doing , did you get him checked ?

Following my last posts, Barneys bruising seemed to fade as quickly as it had appeared closely followed by the hard lumpy bit. So no. We didn't. I still wanted to phone for advice as I do believe it's a warning of what could be a more serious injury one day.

So we will watch him closely. That's all we can do at this stage I guess.

I'm thankful for all replies and I now have that important phone number.

Thanks again for all your interest and help.

Good Luck with Barney and fingers crossed it doesnt cause him any problems in the future
