Have'nt been on here for ages so need some advice. Got a phone call earlier on from my friend to say there was a stray whippet outside our local Asda. I went over and one of the trolley guys was holding onto him as he had been trying to get into the store. He is abosolutely lovely a grey blue and he has a collar.

I have brought him home and phoned the dog warden who is supposed to call around sometime today. Is there anyone else I can contact? I cannot think straight!! My 2 whippets not very fussy on him, Macy has disappeared upstairs barking her head off and Lola likes him a bit I think. He is very quiet and I think he has been kept outside. Poor baby.

Well done you for taking him in

I you take him to a vet they will scan him to see if he is chipped

You could contact www.doglost.co.uk and www.sighthoundsonline.org.uk

either one of these will give you more advice.

Good luck, hope his owners are found soon :luck: :luck: :luck:

Bev - any update on this? I work for a sanctuary in Bristol who would be happy to scan him for you - failing that, give Sylvia at Many Tears Rescue a call - I am sure she has scanning facilities...

If you take him to a vets and the do find a chip they may not let you take him back home. This happened to us when we found little Meg .the vet took her off us as she was not our property :( ......she is now though :) :)

Hi there

Not sure if this is ok to do but I am desperately looking for a rescue Whippet, I have a 4 year old already. I live just outside Bath, so possibly in your area? and would love to have the chance of adopting him. I hope he finds his owners though but if he doesn't I'm in the wings. Maybe you could let me know what happens or where he goes so I could follow up on him (that's if he doesn't find his owners)

All the best

Tania

Hi everyone. Sorry for taking a while to get back. Well the Dog Warden came to collect him abuot 2hours after I rang her, by which time he had settled. Macy was still not happy with him being around but I think Lola had fallen in love!!! I did a lot of thinking while he was here and was in 2 minds as whether to answer the door to the warden when she called. But I know someone was missing him he was so adorable.

At the time the warden called there had not been any calls about him but I suppose it was still early. She said he would be kept for 7 days to see if anyone claimed him then be rehomed. He took a piece of my heart with him and I question whether I did the right thing but its done now.

To the lady who posted above pm me and I will give you the telephone number of the Dog Warden and you could ring her and find out if you have a chance of rehoming him that is if he hasnt been re-united with his family. If you do this PLEEEEAAASE let me know what happens.

Oh I hope this lovely boy gets sorted out soon, either with his owners (which would be lovely) or failing that with a lovely new owner...maybe the person above who is looking?? :luck: Fingers crossed that he gets into a home for Christmas. :luck:

I rang the Council this morning and spoke to someone who deals with the dog warden, I explained about the dog and she said we don't rehome to people in Wales, I said that's ok I don't live in Wales then she said we don't rehome there either!!.. ....ummm where I haven't told you where I live?

The dog is the property of blah, blah Council, yep I know that but I offering him a home, well you can't - what? so what will happen to the dog, he remains the property of the Council, yep I know that but I AM offering him a home - can I speak to dog warden? Yes but they will only tell you the same.

So if anyone manages to track this wee boy down and give him a lovely home, good on ya - because this sort of response is totally ridiculous. I am prepared to offer him a home and just get faced with nothing better than a brick wall
