HI folks here are a few pictures of my portuguese podengo Tejo.She is a sight hound and stands approx 9 inches (shoulder height)

I'm fascinated by these lovely little dogs, the picture of yours with the flowers is a stunning shot :wub: :wub:
 
She's gorgeous, she looks just like a fox in the puppy picture! :thumbsup:
 
I know they are shown in group 10, but they look very different from any of the other sight hounds. The one I saw was black and white and the first resemblance I thought of was Jack Russell terrier. Can you tell us anymore about the breed?

and less like a sighthound than basenjis or cirneco (I wonder why cirneco aren't in group 10, or do they not hunt by sight despite physically resembling sighthounds?)
 
I saw one of these at a dog show recently. Quite little characters.

TEJO IS A PORTUGUESE PODENGO PEQUINO(SMALL).THIS BREED COMES IN THREE SIZES GRAND,MEDIO AND PEQUINO.THE MEDIO IS WHIPPET SIZED AND THE GRAND CAN BE AS TALL AS PHARO HOUNDS.THIS IS A VERY ANCIENT BREED AND THEY SAY VIRTUALLY UNCHANGED .ALL THREE SIZES ARE USED FOR HUNTING FROM MICE AND RATS TO WILD BOAR.THE PORTUGUESE PODENGO CLUB HAS A GREAT WEB SITE HERE YOU WILL FIND HISTORY OF THE BREED ETC.IN THIS COUNTRY ONLY THE PEQUINO IS RECOGNISED BY THE KENNEL CLUB.THERE ARE TWO COAT VARIETIES WIRE AND SMOOT.WIRE BEING THE MOST POPULAR.TEJO AS FAR AS I KNOW IS THE ONLY SMOOTH BEING SHOWN IN SCOTLAND IN FACT THE ONLY PODENGO BEING SHOWN IN SCOTLAND.SHE IS A JOY TO LIVE WITH AND GETS ON WELL WITH OUR OTHER SIGHT HOUNDS,CHICKENS AND CATS.THIS YEAR WILL BE THE FIRST TIME THEY WILL BE SHOWN AT CRUFTS.TEJO WILL BE GOING WITH ONE OF OUR WHIPPETS. :thumbsup:

Wow she is absolutely gorgeous, just like a little fox :wub: :wub: I love the picture with her and the cats :wub:
 
She's lovely. We've seen some of these in Portugal and quite a few dogs I've seen wandering about look like they could be Podengo crosses. A friend living there has 2 rescues. She says that one of the local huntsman is always asking to borrow them!

Tejo is adorable - I've never seen this breed before so really interesting to read this thread and see the photos of your gorgeous girlie - that puppy picture is soooo cute

What a cutie , what do they hunt or chase in Portuagal to make them a sight hound?

Ive only seem red fawn ones never a black and white
 
I believe the Ibizan hound is also called a Podengo (but not Portugese)

what/who is the pretty white dog with the eye patch?
