and we recently took on milo (18 months) from a family that could no longer keep him with the arrival of their new baby.
the main problem they had was his running off and his over exuberance.

i hate these fastenings too, accident waiting to happen in my opinion (for whatever my opinion is worth :p )
i use martingale collars and i find them very satisfactory. you have firm but gentle control and they are nice and wide for comfort. i buy from canada, matching collar and lead sets...

we had a small problem with jake and separation, he ate the door (w00t)
after coming on here for some advice, it seemed that the main tip people gave was to get a second whippet. so we did, and we have never looked back, not a sleepless night or chewed door since.
