    Google's disturbing this morning!

Lurcerman, I agree that most dogs are a lot less fit than they should be, I have said in another thread that my girl had a FCE back in may, the vet said that not being over weight and being well muscled should help her. And she recovered brilliantly certainly faster and more completely than most...

    Google's disturbing this morning!

Lurcherman, she is a pet, though she has raced most weekends apart from winter. I presume your cross had more coat and body fat than a full Whippet. But after having dogs of many breeds over the years I have to say sight hounds are wonderful.

    Google's disturbing this morning!

With clothing for dogs, Folly being a Whippet has very little body fat and very thin covering of fur, she gets cold and any rain goes straight to her skin. So if its cold she wears a warm coat and if its raining she wears a waterproof one. OK she has way to many coats but that's me, seeing a...

    Crate vs harness for car?

I use a harness, Folly is secured on the back seat, she settles well and often sleeps till the car stops. The crumple zones worry me about putting her in the rear, the luggage space is designed to crumple in the event of a crash and I do not want her being crumpled.

    Is this Aggression?

Just a small different idea, in your original post you say she reacted differently meeting a male and a female. A lot of bitches tell a male off if she thinks its paying to much attention to her rear. And most males accept being told off, even a small female 'gets away with' telling a large male...

    The Dog Cafe

My oldies have always been special, the hardest to loose was Gypsy a Shelti, she wasn't a young dog when I lost my wife but at 13 she never hesitated when I walked her, (and I spent a heck of a long time walking her we covered miles). But eventually at 18 1/2 I lost her, the last couple of years...

    Dog personalities

finsky, yes I saw the full litter and she was relaxed, though thinking about it she was more interested in staying close to me than she was in playing with the pack. Not appearing to using me as a shield sort of thing just happier. The funny thing was a friend went with me and although Folly was...

    Dog personalities

Folly comes from quite a large litter, and she is very submissive when meeting strange dogs and takes quite a time to relax with them, (other sight hounds are accepted easily though). She was like this as soon as we started going out and I don't think she had any bad experiences, so I just...

What is your dogs' favorite snacks?

Oh and replying to this topics title, its simple, Folly is a Whippet so if its eatable its her favorite.

What is your dogs' favorite snacks?

Folly gets a treat as I leave her at home, (ok I know people say we shouldn't make a fuss when leaving them, just slip out quietly but we have always done it so as each came it carried on). And she gets a treat at bedtime, normally a fish 4 dogs square. Other than those she gets a small treat...

What is the first thing you should train your puppy?

I would say for the average normal pet dog, if it walks on a lead without pulling and it has a decent recall then that would be all it needs. Obviously after house training of course.

    Can pups just be pups

I have no problem with people giving as many different clues or commands provided they are gentle giving loads of praise or treats never being in any way forceful. I do however think that people should find out as much as possible before deciding which breed they want. Their are loads of Border...

Does your dogs' name have a significant meaning?

I named my present girl Folly, as a Folly is primarily for decoration, but suggesting through its appearance some other purpose, which sums her up. All our other dogs I have only had a very small part in choosing their names, obviously the rescues we have had came with names so we kept them. But...

    Nfl football

Another bike racing fan here, I can, (and do), watch a bike race all through but F1 once the first laps over I switch it off.

Do any one of you know about FCE?

Bringing everyone up to date, Folly has carried on improving, slowly but that's to be expected, so that now she is walking properly. By that I mean she has the typical sight hound, free moving springy step. I have noticed this coming on for some time, initially when she was walking slightly...

    Puppy and upset tummy

I'm another looking forward to photo's. My top three breeds are Whippet, Saluki and Deerhounds. Only ever lived with Whippets but I would love one, (or both), of the others but dont think it will happen.

    How much walking?

I cant add anything for Borzois as I've never lived with one, but I think most people that have had a running dog as a pup will know about the zoomies, when they just run for no reason other than they want to. For sure with Whippet pups I have seen them do the wall of death around the lounge. A...

Is there anything your pet is scared of or reacts to?

My girl has one strange thing, theirs one walk we sometimes go on, it has a footpath through three fields leading on to a good area with plenty of trees open spaces and a large pond. Going she wont walk through the second field off lead, on lead she walks fine and does not look worried but off...

    Lurcher non period whippet advice

JudyN, theirs a good reason it looked like he was born to it.................... He was. At our club over the years a number of people have brought a young (ish) adult Whippet asking if they can let it have a run saying things like I'm not sure he will do it cause he's only a pet. Virtually...
