A gentleman in the Southern Highlands, south of Sydney Australia, is selling his collection of whippet / sighthound memorabilia. The pieces have been purchased over a span of 40 years and from various parts of the world.
There are the usual pieces that one sees (whippet head bookends), but...
I've not done frozen AI with whippets as I have been told that it is not as successful in sighthounds as it is in other dogs (and this was from Greyhound breeders as well). I do know of the odd sighthound litter born by frozen semen but they don't seem to have been as many as there are in other...
As a judge, I would hope that I look at the virtues and not the faults of dogs. When assessing any breed of dog, one should consider the hallmarks first and foremost. Then you consider if there are any disqualifying points (which there are in some breeds, eg, size, colour and dentition). And...
It never hurts to contact judges from afield as they may have a planned holiday. I'm judging in Europe soon and extended my holiday at the World Show as it was easier to be away for several weeks than 2 trips. Also, it reduced the costs for the host club.
All clubs are in the same situation...
Stephen now lives in Sydney Australia. Check with Molly but I think you might find he's an Open Show judge but not a Championship judge as he isn't listed in our judges book.

For us Aussies, there's a large contingent going to Sweden for the World Show, Whippet Congress and Sighthound Show. Unfortunately, unless we rob a bank (and get away with it :- " ) two overseas trips within a short space of time is not on the cards.
Enjoy the show.
Went to Bay City champ shows at Newcastle on the weekend with a pleasing result for Clover -
Three Best of Breeds and 1 Aust Bred in Group and two BEST IN GROUPS. Yippee.
Sadly, no conversions in general specials but we're still happy.

I believe that cryptorchidism is a relatively easy problem to reduce and/or eliminate as as breeders don't see it as life threatening, it continues to plague the breed. For me, this is a major problem as testicle problems mean fewer males to breed from and that sisters of affected dogs carry...
Pol. Ch. Tylko Ty Viking's Pride?
Am I right?
Had looked at these pics the other day again noticing the difference in presentation. Lovely dog.

This topic is about differences between US and UK dogs. I feel that one difference is coat and skin quality.
If that's based in different modes of feeding, it would be interesting to know it.

It's over (w00t) Well, not quite. Got to do all the paperwork now and the critiques and pics to sort through.
HUGE apologies to Anne Wyatt for putting her dog in the catalogue and leaving her girl out! And then I didn't have her as exhibiting her dog Monday. At least I was consistent...
Me thinks it's getting a bit too serious. I'm very tired and sore after having just exhibited through 4 days of whippet judging and 2 Salukis shows in conjunction.
Now I know that the topic was on differences in standards and comparison to dogs years ago, but the majority of our...

Interesting topic. Over the years, I've been a show secretary for several breeds and I can only the UK system in my experience, appears the most difficult for judges.
We approach judges only to find out that they are licenced for Open Shows only. I particularly remember one judge who was not...
Now what I was going to post was that I've finished the whippet catalogue for the shows and am posting notifications out tomorrow and Wednesday. Numbers can be collected on the day with your catalogues.
I've been checking with exhibitors as I know one lot of entries hasn't been received so if...
