The day went really well!
On the running dog front we had a whippet, 2 greyhounds, a deerhound-ish lurcher and a bull x greyhound puppy (which the judge wanted to take home with her)
Of course, lots of gingers and Lancashire heelers too :)
There are pictures on Terriertalk site, under the...
When I was a child in West Lancashire (where they originated) they were a very common sight. There were a lot on farms and kept as pets and pups were about £10 each! (this was the '70s though!)
Lancashire Heelers are on the UK Kennel Club's list of Vulnerable Native British Breeds as there are...
Logan was actually an Irish Terrier, but a rather tall one! I know a lot of people think they are a bit (w00t) but I love them and properly handled they can do just about anything that a small lurcher could do. They were bred to work above ground and are built on more speedy lines than an...
Me...bored by lurcher-talk? Never!!!
I just wish my old dog Logan was still alive (he died in January) as I did some gundog work with him and seeing Trevor's face when he was bringing back the dummy and looking all pleased with himself brought back lots of happy memories!
As one of the...
Definitely the best dog-prog in ages :))
I loved the way the training was based around working with the dogs' natural instincts and strengths and was for a real purpose!
Just shows that dogs respond best when they are allowed to be dogs...
Latest news...
We have invited the Lancashire heelers along too, as the day is near Ormskirk and (in their honour) we have found some locally-produced prizes, including some organic Lancashire cheese from Leagram Dairy and some Ormskirk gingerbread from Scotts of Ormskirk.(Many thanks to them...
When I took my dog lure-coursing he chased the lure so far and then slowed down, sniffed the air and flew off in the other direction
When I caught him, he was leaping up at the lady who was frying the burgers and she was holding a bag of burgers above her head!
I believe this is known...
On Sunday we went to the Falconry Fair at Chetwynd Park. There was some lure-coursing in the main arena as well as a talk on lurchers in the smaller ring.
I just wanted to say what great ambassadors for lurcher-owners the people who did the commentry and presentations were :) They came...

I was actually wondering if there was a huge grant available via the tax payer because gingers are an opressed minority (w00t) I shall ring Mr. T. Blair this evening to find out!
However, there may be objections to the rat-catching relay race :- "
I wonder if Fabulous Willie's owners will enter him in the Cock of the North working terrier competition :p
Only joking- Tibetans are in the Utility Group - but can you imagine it!!!!
Can anyone explain with the new legislation what happens if a dog is granted an exemption from the legislation as a puppy (last night on Crufts they mentioned that gundogs and other working dogs could be exempted) but then ceases to be a working dog due to injury on the dog's part, or even a...

(I haven't forgotten - Scrumpy is invited!)
