I would take the dog back to running solos, and don’t run it with another dog until it’s fully focused on the lure and safe to run with.
Some dogs are also not as interested in chasing a plastic bag after they have been hunting live.
Another mistake that new people sometimes do is give there...
Collisions often happen in open field coursing. It's happened on the last two times I was out in Wyoming. The dogs are so intent on getting to the hare that they don't see each other 'till it's too late. Hares turn and sometimes one dog doesn't react quickly enough. Rarely are there any...
Well I'm not familiar with Jazz Fest, but it's unlikely that I would be impressed. By and large there are two breeds in the USA. The show whippet and the race whippet. It seems that exageration is what show judges are looking for in the U.S. It is not possible to find a dual purpose Whippet...
Just about any whippet with four legs can get a Field Champion title in the USA. The Lure Courser of Merrit is a bit more difficult. The racing and open field titles are the tough ones to get. All you need for a show Ch. is a well paid professional handler! You sometimes get unexpectedly good...
think i will carry on taking my chances in the UK ---------

Sounds like a lot of trouble doesn't it, but American dog owners already give routine (every three years) Rabies shots and have their dogs micro-chipped. Its probably a lot easier coming to the USA that going to Europe.
Is it...
That's all well and good about the travelling and stuff, but no run on the back of a hare is worth 6 months in quarantine to me :o Different popping over to Europe, but unless I'm mistaken, the dogs would have to be in quarantine after travelling anywhere else. Unless things have changed...
Well where I come from it's still legal. With the ease that international travelling with dogs is nowdays I'm surprised no UK dogs turn up in American hare coursing.
With the strength of the Euro against the $ it can't be too expensive during the off peak winter period.
Yep. Lots of open space and much of it public lands that anyone can go on for legal hunting.
Lobo isn't my pup although she has a lot of my breeding behind her. One of her brothers and one of her sisters have gone to Belgium in a racing home. The breeder Mike Downey, also sent a pup to...
Long run up for a Whippet. We don't course competitively any more. Just for fun. We keep jackets on the dogs because they can run a long way off and you can't see them or find them if they get injured. No fences to speak of.
