Nice Working Bitch

Nice pair of dogs, how are they bred and are they yours,

The black dog is mine, the bitch is barnsmore and sporting fields bred? never heard of this breeding before.. :thumbsup:
 
the black dog is in very good condition,as is the bitch, i didn't know barnesmore bred working whippets i only thought they were show, but good luck for the impending litter :thumbsup:
 
Sporting Fields is an American kennel, I believe, well-known for showdogs. Barnesmore is a top show kennel, but I know a few people who have Barnesmore whippets which they work. Almost all whippets will hunt if they get the chance, and the show dogs are bred to be strong and have good mouths. I've seen photos on k9 of Midlander Keith's Collooney showbred bitch catching rabbits.
 
Sportingfields Jazz Fest - was not only the number 1 dog in the US for confirmation but also a lure coursing champion.

He is the grandsire of 3 of ours, one of whom has a very strong prey drive and is a prolific rabbit catcher.

Just about any whippet with four legs can get a Field Champion title in the USA. The Lure Courser of Merrit is a bit more difficult. The racing and open field titles are the tough ones to get. All you need for a show Ch. is a well paid professional handler! You sometimes get unexpectedly good results from a show X race breeding in the first generation. That good old hybrid vigor kicking in. The show and racing lines are so far apart.

Not a fan of Jazz Fest then?

I would love to see him in the flesh. I think he looks such a sound dog and beautiful on the move. His progeny are also very impressive.

Well I'm not familiar with Jazz Fest, but it's unlikely that I would be impressed. By and large there are two breeds in the USA. The show whippet and the race whippet. It seems that exageration is what show judges are looking for in the U.S. It is not possible to find a dual purpose Whippet. (A dog that does well at Showing and raceing.) There are a few race Champion dogs that have earned show points, but there is not one single show Champion that has earned race championship points on the track for many years. In the open field show dogs are totally outclassed.

Like all "Rules of thumb" I can think of one exception. My friend Mike had a successful race dog in Indiana, Zeke. A show breeder from the same State asked to use him on one of her show Champions. The result was a very worthwhile litter that did quite well on the track. Check 'em out at:-

Last night she produced 10 healthy pups with a trouble free labour..... :D

4 all black, 3 fawn, 2 tiger brindle and 1 blue pup.. the lad is well pleased ;)
 
Glad she has had her pups and all is well, nice litter size
