The sun shone on what was the most eagerly awaited event in the Pedigree Whippet Racing calendar, and we weren’t disappointed. From the positive feedback we have had so far, it seems the NPWRA was much needed, and is here to stay. Thank you to everyone who sponsored weight groups, donated money, prizes, and raffle prizes, and also to those who helped on the day to make it a great success.

NPRCh Run at Mill – what a dog! Today he broke the record of wins in the 28lb group, which had been held for 30 years I believe! He has won 5 bends, and 6 straights which shows what an all round dog he is. Not only did he break this record, but also equalled the all time record of the most ever wins at Championships held by RCh Red Assassin. He also had the fastest time of the day over 175yds 10.77. Congratulations Robin and Janine Heaton on your achievements with your boy. Everyone says what good sportsmanship you always show too - well done both of you.

Well done to new half coats Kinda Cheeky, Morton’s Double Take, Only Me, Chase the Bear, and Making a Mint. Congratulations to Daphne Kitchen and Black Gold becoming the first National Pedigree Whippet Racing Champion! Well done to all other winners too, and in fact all dogs running at the first National Championships, as they are winners for the sport of pedigree whippet racing.

Thank you to Elaine Pollard who did a brilliant job selling raffle tickets, which brought in £160. Thanks to Gill Harcombe and Pam Spikes for doing the Racers Remembered draw, which made £83 for Whippet Rescue. Also Gill made a beautiful cake which was auctioned at the end of the presentation. I’m not sure who had the winning bid, but they are in for a treat if it’s anything like the birthday cake she made and brought to Gloucester a few weeks ago. We look forward to welcoming everyone at the next National Championships which will be on October 4th 2009 at Weyhill Fair.

Just about awake enough to post now. Thanks everyone for making the 1st National Championships such a success, I think that everyone on the field helped out.

Big well done to all the dogs who competed and ran their little hearts out. There was a personal special moment when I watched 3 old heavyweight codgers (Ross, Keeper and Bean) running up the field together all I can say is thank goodness there wasn't a time for them. They finished with their pride in tact. :)) Bean has been bouncing ever since. He's 'THE MAN' you know. :) I spotted the ridiculous old fella flirting with little Fizz Bomb at one point.

Congratulations to all the racers and dogs who made Sunday 2nd August 2009 a day to remember.

We didnt need a time to know that they were the best three dogs at the track Barbara! ;) :D  :D

Well done Keeper, Bean and my Rossy boy

I think Veteran racing is the best time ever - they age very gracefully, and still give 100% no matter what age. We are very proud of our oldies aren't we! :D

:D They were great weren't they. The old guys came through for us :huggles:
