I'm not in unison-so I was in work today-had to close the school at 12pm though-same tomorrow...

No kitchen staff, cleaners, site supervisor and a few teaching assistants missing-

Spent this afternoon catching up/tidying ready for new term-

Easy with no children around.....

yes i have the kids off school today and tomorrow plus our bins havent been emptied

our secondry schools are closed for the next two day, at the primary school my middle daughter ( 8) was not affected, but my son (5) had to be picked up at 12pm and taken back at 1pm............pain in the butt to be honest............got to do it tomorrow as well !

Well I went into work at Herefordshire LEA, expecting to have to cross the picket line as I'm not in the Union, but they'd gone for their teabreak

We had about 7 schools close in our area, so not too bad. My boss is on strike for two days, so you'd think I'd have an easy time, but I had to do her work as well today :sweating: Still it kept me busy and off K9 :- "

I work in a school (Finance) and none of the admin staff were on strike, but the support staff were so school was closed.

My admin colleagues and I thought we'd get on with all sorts today in the children's absence but we hadn't reckoned on the teachers ... because they had no children to occupy them, they kept coming in and interrupting us (I don't think they realise we have work of our own to get through!). (w00t) (w00t)

mmmmmmmmmmm....... :(

teachers=ME ME ME-lol

It should be a statutory requirement that teachers work for themselves/become self employed for a period of 12 months before being allowed to enter teacher training....

many of the 'old school' have done nothing else in their life/career wise.

Its not a good grounding for 'the real world' :- " imo

Ben finished school at 12 oclock for the rest of the week today and tomorrow because the dinner staff are on strike and Friday because it is the last day of term and they always finish at dinner time on the last day

Oh my goodness, where do we start!!!! :D I do know the odd teacher here and there who are utterly brilliant, stand on their own feet and capable of organising all sorts (but then again, they've worked in the real world - you hit the nail on the head!) ... but I know many more who could not organise their way out of a paper bag!!

Teachers who cannot manage their own time so don't understand the value of someone else's ;) We have one in particular who is incapable of giving us admin tasks (typing, organisation for trips and so on) in good time, everything is last minute with her, despite being asked and reminded nicely on millions of occasions over the last 16 years. We sometimes believe that such teachers think that as soon as they've put the handscribbled note on your desk, the job is already finished ... they have no notion of the logistics of photocopying etc, and the fact that you have your own priorities.

How does that saying go ... "A lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part"!! LOL.

Yep our schools closed today and tomorrow...Im at work tomorrow too so son has to fend for himself...although he is 14 its still annoying isnt it...

Still got school trips in at the farm though, they havnt cancelled those... :- " what really gets to me though is the price you pay for a holiday in the six weeks...plus the fining thing if you keep them off in term time for one.....then they have the cheek to strike just before the six weeks holiday starts...

Our office sounds much like yours. I love this saying, and I'm going to make a sign for my desk

What else can they do when negotiations have failed ?

I'm not a teacher but I know a few great ones who definately put a lot more in than the 9-3.30pm, but I do know some who just turn up for the payslip.

GENERALLY PUBLIC LACK SYMPATHY DUE TO THE SCHOOLS HOLIDAYS SO

Their wage should take into account the 13 weeks holiday a year.

They didn't get a normal payrise over the last 9 yrs when the country's finances were not doing too badly, so it's a shame we're heading for a recession (so the media tell us) as it makes their request look worse.

For anyone who sees the FATCATS getting ridiculous rises/payoffs and pensions it is VERY unfair.

I work and have to make alternate arrangements when school is on strike , but they always give good notice.

SHAME THAT WHEN A BIN STRIKE OCCURS , IT'S IMPORTANT, BUT WHEN SCHOOLS INCONVIENIENCE US IT SEEMS TO BE A PAIN IN THE A***E

Anyway, would YOU look after a pile of other peoples kids for their pay ??????

Yes.... and I do. :- " 30 children........... 4-5 year olds.

My moan at teachers came from Wilfred's comments about interruptions in her office.

I have a feeling this saying will be used in many a school office, mine inlcuded i love it and how true of many teachers!!

I think i must have her sister working at our school - same scenario whenever she needed something yesterday she brings it today and expects you to have done it the day before that :- " :- "
