I am just asking for a bit of advice please, whilst out walking on Monday Jasper my whippet x greyhound cut his foot / leg at the bottom on that BL**DY barbed wire. It left a good gash on his leg that is at the bottom rear leg right on the bend where his ankle/foot is. This has resulted in everytime he bends his foot it obviously pulls on the wound.
I rushed him straight to the vets, who were brill. They knocked him out, gave it a good clean and a quick x-ray then stitched him back up. The nurse said to me take his bandage off Thursday / Friday and leave the wound, they have put disposable sticthes in that way he will not need to go and have them taken out. I have an appointment on Monday morning a week later just to check all is OK.
I have taken the bandage off today and the wound looked lovely, but the little monkey has done nothing but try to lick it and will not leave it alone. Also Blue my other whippet likes the look of it and also wants to lick it for him, (or kiss it better). Now it looks like it has started to open up a bit at the bottom, also I am frightened of it opening again.
Anyway after the woffle, the question I am asking is how long does it take for whippets to heal???. I have bandged the wound back up at the mo, when it is strapped up he doesn't bother with it at all. I was going to ring the vets in the morning but I thought I'd ask the experts first.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
