Hi!

i will be visiting the UK a few times this year.

What are the biggest sighthound shops in the UK and what are their addresses (and websites, if they have)?

I have 2 whippets.

i would like to shop for once OFF-line. its nice to hold the things in your hand before you buy them ;)

thanks a lot for your help!

and are there any shops with racing equipment?

glenn

sorry, double posted (second glass of sauvignon and I'm helpless)

I've never heard of a sighthound shop in the south East of England. Specialist outlets like that wouldn't survive long because of the high cost of overheads, but I'm just guessing here...

I get to see and feel hound merchandise at county shows, outdoor festivals where small dealers/ dog charities have stalls.

Perhaps other more clued-up folk on here have more info?

If you are here at the right time you could always come to Crufts .

Always lots of stuff for sale there

aha...

so then what are the dates of the biggest events with the biggest amount of stuff for whippets?

i mean especially spring 2010. anything before april 10, i wont be able to catch.

i was thinking of flying into Sheffield and to hang around Sheffield/Manchester/Liverpool, but would consider a little further to the south or east if something big was happening.

thanks for the help.

there used to be a shop in Brownhills in the west midlands called Midland Greyhound and Whippet Supplies'

i havent been over for a couple of years so couldnt say for definate if its still there. it was a small shop but well stocked

and the owner was very accomodating in getting or making what you want.

the address was 115 Lindon Road, Brownhills, WS8 7DD

tel: 01543 379070.

If you venture down to the South East of England there is Jan's Greyhound Gifts in Rayleigh, Essex. Not a huge shop but crammed full of goodies - check it out online www.jansgreyhoundgifts.co.uk (or it could be com not sure).

You'll have major problems flying into Sheffield - unless you use a parachute - there's no airport there anymore.

its there....

well, they call it sheffield. its really closer to a smaller city (i think to the northwest). but when you fly from gdansk to uk by whizzair, it is called sheffield-something. its one of those airports especially set up for these budget and small carriers.

believe me, its there. i can go on the whizzar or Wałęsa Airport website and buy the ticket right now if i want. 89zl for a weekday. ive researched and i know my possible destinations. :)

greetz.

Now then , sheffield is certainly NOT in the north west

only airport near Sheffield I think is Doncaster , poss called Robin Hood Airport , then there is `Leeds and Bradford` , but still not North west

You could come for the HOUND Show , 1st Sat in August

Just looked at website ,

its Doncaster-Sheffield airport

As Hula mentioned above, Crufts is worth a visit. 11-14 March at Birmingham. Lots of stuff to buy, dogs to see and activities to be amazed at!

six weeks to go.........six weeks to go.............six weeks to go!!!!

Check out the Crufts website and bring a full purse!

I'm sure GlenSKii said they cannot make anytime before 10th April so Crufts is out (unfortunately)

The airport at Doncaster is called 'Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield' which strikes me as strange as it is definitely NOT in Sheffield and has nothing to do with Robin Hood who was from Loxley which is the other side of Sheffield.

18th April is Northern Counties Ch show and 25th April is WELKS Ch show so could catch them

What about the houndshow in August

I went to this shop this week, got 2 lovely collars @ leads.

Lots of racing bits in this shop.

Im lucky its only 20 mins up the road from me.

hi,

yes thats the one. doncaster-sheffield. in short form listed here in poland as sheffield.

dont split hairs with me here.... i can be pretty sure that it was an englishman who decided what to call it here ;)

the destination, when i buy a ticket here in gdansk, is called sheffield. when there is more room for more letters, they call it sheffield-doncaster.

i looked on google earth. and i could get to sheffield center from that airport by bicycle in a matter of a couple hours... stopping for a pint a-couple-a times in apub decorated in sighthound memrobilia.

:)

greetz from sopot. my whippets are atttacking me with kisses cuz i just got home from our jam session. so i guess i should go.

peace,

glenn
