Hear so much about whippets being destructive, but is Annie an exeception to the rule?

She and Alfie have the run of the house when I’m out.

She’s an angel, I work for 3 hours a day and somedays she is left for up to 4 - 4 and a half hours maximum if I have errands to do before getting home. I have never arrived home to chaos, not even in her first year, ( only caged her in the first few weeks for her own safety) nothing has ever been chewed or destroyed. Mind you I never leave temptation in her way either. A box of tissues left on a coffee table would just be asking for trouble and maybe just too tempting even for her. Her favourite things are loo rolls and if one is available to her, she will shred to her hearts content, but that’s about it, everything else in the house is pretty safe.

Whippets seem to have this label of being destructive , do they really deserve it?

One day last week i need to go the shop, i normally take my whippy with me, but thought to myself, i will give it a go and leave her with the run of the house, i was gone perhaps 20 mins tops, when i got back, fast asleep on my bed, no damage done

Inca was slightly destructive and learnt quickly.

Dippy on the other hand is a little  she jumps like a kangaroo to get stuff off the worktop...she once got a kitchen roll from the very back of the work top...how I have know idea but it was torn into shreds

She doesn't care what she chews or where it comes from as long as she can destroy it

When you catch her she looks at you lke an o:) but really she's a little  in disguise (w00t)

I can leave Robbie for hours :D ,,he's never chewed since he grew up (w00t) ,,he was the pup from hell at one time though :(

Tam can be left for a short time,,Im working my way up with him at the moment,,he's up to 1/2 an hour to day, just has been an angel o:) ,,he just look's out the window, till I get home.

I think I could leave Ricky out a cage, if I kept the kitchen door shut :) , but he is in the kennel for the day time and sleeps with Rachel at night's,,,he's good in her room, but will steal out of her bin

Gizmo :- " :- " Not a chance  ,,he's in a cage when im out as he's took over from Robbie and is the devil puppy  :teehee: . I think he will come good with time :sweating: :sweating:

I think most young whippets till around 18 months will chew,,mobile phones, pencils, chairs, tables etc , etc,,,but as they grow older they turn into little angels o:) o:) o:) .

Most young pups / dogs will chew  :huggles:

Nice one,

Dont get me started - Ive got the 'naughty' boys !!!! The list of things damaged/trashed is almost endless  , from plasterboard walls, to carpets to zips on cusions to the sofa, they even ate the top of the bottle of anti-chew spray !!! they have had it all, however in the last few weeks they have calmed down considerably and havent destroyed anything of value - the odd bit of 'junk mail' but it has been a long journey through puppyhood in this house  :b :- "

we aint had much trouble with molly just a few of my brothers toys have been chewed when left on they have been left on the floor and she has been left in the room on her own.

most recently we have ad a problem with her nickin drink mats in the window sill we have a place mat whic is bright green in a leaftshape with a lady bird on (which we use for putting drinks on so the window sill doesnt get stained)it is stuck down with blue tac cus she keeps nickin them. so now she has decided to nick it anyway and chew it instead of just playing with it!

We have got through 3 in the last week!

how do you teach a dog not to do it if by the time you go back into the room she has stopped chewing it and is fallin asleep?

You have to be as crafty as them and think dog like i do, try and hide somewhere where you can see her getting up to no good, then look em in the eye and say, NO

thats what i used to do when she nicked my boxers of the radiator

Naughty, naughty little rascals, glad to hear they are getting less so.

You mentioned junk mail, now I had forgot about that. That is one of the few things that Annie will try to get to before me, and she isn't fussy about what mail it is. Don't mind her running off with the ones containing bills but she loves those small jiffy bags with my ebay goods inside.

I tend to leave junk mail in reachable places so they have fun ripping something up and still feel 'big and clever' with me still technicaly having the upper hand :p

No Keith I wasn't laughing cos when I had scrubbed the rug (and her legs) and the rug was nearly dry, the little madam did a wee wee in the very same place

Muffin stands in wait for the envelopes as we open the mail and then pounces on them with glee as thought he's won a major prize! Although I've posted loads of pictures of his de-stuffing antics, I don't think we've ever come back to the house after leaving him for a while and found anything destroyed. He only seems to have his mad half hours when we are around. He has actually calmed down a lot too, now he is nearly 18 months old. o:)

From the experience of my two, i think whippets are very undestructive. We've had a variety of breeds between us and we both think they're very good. Holly will have a chew of Conor's (my son) toys, but how does she know which one's are his and which ones are the dogs? Plus, she's teething. Neither Holly or Frankie have had any inclination to cause any real damage. o:) Chloe on the other hand was a right tinker when she was younger. :teehee:

Paris is going through a bad stage at present of nicking anything from the table the phones on. We cant leave pens there anymore as they just dissapear.

He's been going up in the world the last couple of days and has gone on to ornaments
