"A puppy died after being kicked by drunken Colin Vance when it wet a carpet, a court heard on Monday.

"According to an eyewitness who had been disturbed by a loud yelp, he had kicked Bonnie, a black Labrador cross,

several times. The dog , owned by a member of Vance's family, was taken to a vet but later died, magistrates at Llandudno were told.

"Vance .. was bailed for a pre-sentence report after he admitted cruelty"

item from North Wales newspaper

I don't imagine cases like this come to court often; I'm glad they sometimes do - even though I don't know how

effective the law can be in stopping this sort of behaviour. The case of the dog tied to the gate and left to die is more serious insofar as the cruelty was (almost certainly) conscious and premeditated.

i have just read about the poor lurcher tied to the gate and i have had to write and say how awfull it made me feel when i looked down at our beautifull bedddie x whippet lurcher called honey who we rescued a few months ago and could not imagine how anyone could hurt such a trustfull dog that a lurcher is. these dogs bring so much joy that all they needed to do was take the dog to a rescue home and i know someone out there would of helped ,.this has really upset me

Well said. And welcome to you

I found another N Wales newspaper article with more detail, which shows just how bad the puppy kicking was:

DOG BOOTED TO DEATH ...

A puppy died after being kicked several times by a drunk, a court heard ...

Colin Vance ... was jailed for four months and banned from keeping animals for ten years after he admitted cruelty.

The town's magistrates were told the black lbrador cross called #bonnie was yelping and had been in great pain. Vance's stepdaughter owned the puppy and begged him to stop. She said at one stage: "I think you have killed her."

But prosecutor James Neary said Vance, a convicted robber had declared: "I don't give a f---. I'm not having her p--ing in my house."

Mr Neary said another woman who saw last September's attack in Maes yr Orsedd, Llandudno, had been upset. Vance had been kicking into bushes and booted the dog at least four times, according to her.

He had also picked up a large plant pot and told his stepdaughter to move away from the dog.

Another eye witness said Vance had kicked out more than six times. 'He had heard an almighty squeal by a dog. He thought it had been run over,' Mr Neary remarked.

Police were called and Bonnie was taken to a vet. But nothing could be done to save her and the puppy was put out of her misery.

Vance told police he had drunk about eight cans of lager. He remembered being in his stepdaughter's flat and the dog went on the carpet. He grabbed Bonnie's neck but she tried to bite him and he kicked the dog out. He claimed to have no memory of the rest of the incident, Mr Neary added.

Defence solicitor Graham Parry said Vance had problems with alcohol and drugs. 'There's nothing I can say about the offence to justify his actions on that day. He does bitterly regret what he did.

'The defendant's main concern is the effect his actions had on his family. His stepdaughter has forgiven him.'

Court chairwoman Daphne Sawle said Vance had used 'extreme violence.'

I wish the very worst on whoever purposely left him there. Tying defenseless animal and leaving it is absolutely disgusting. No excuses that's what it is.
