I have always been wary of feeding bones to my dogs (apart from large beef raw thigh and marrow bones) to my dogs ever since my 1st dog a Rhodesian Ridgeback chewed one up and got splinters stick in her stomach for which she required surgery.

I note that a lot of members feed raw chicken wings and / or lamb ribs / bones to their whippets.

There must be no ill effects as it seems a popular treat.

Has anyone had a problem feeding chicken wings or lamb ribs?

I am assumming that the bones are fed RAW as cooked bones have a tendency to splinter?

Is there a min age at which feeding these is recommended?

My dogs would love this treat but I am a bit wary after my first experience.

Mine usually get hide chews and the odd marrow bone and Hills T/D dental buscuits for breakfast.

Thanks eve

Mine love raw chicken wings. I don't give hide chews after one of mine ended up in the vets with it jammed in her throat. She tried to swallow it half chewed.

Marrow bones. lamb ribs, beef ribs, all good. So far we have had not problems. I don't give pork bones.

Hi

My 9 week whippet pup eats chicken wings better than the older ones

i never feed rawhide as i hate the way it goes soft and soggy. I think this is more a chocking risk

Tonight they are having raw chicken legs for tea

Hi, I feed raw lamb ribs or neck about 5 times a week. They love them and it does keep their teeth nice. I always stay close and keep an eye on them just in case, but they do seem just fine. :)

I had a Ridgie too- she would try to swallow bones whole, she was a lovely girl but a bit of a greedy guts- RIP Lentil  1997-2008

I get the Tesco value bag and its great for the dogs, i also buy the frozen chicken breasts when its buy one get one free.

the dogs can eat any part of the chicken as long as its raw. Many a time i have taken the meat of a fresh chicken, weve had the meat for tea and the dogs the carcass. Nothing wasted

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone.

I will try out the chicken wings first and see how they get on.

I think lamb ribs might prove the most popular :) :) :)

I was surprised to hear about feeding chicken thigh bones as these contain a very sharp needle like bone.

Foxy, Misty, Lilly and Toddy send their SPECIAL thanks too
