charlie is now 10 months and is quite the man 8) which is all very well execpt he wont leave poor alfie alone :( alfie is my wonderful choc lab who has the sweetest temp i have ever know, he has also been neuterd not sure if this has anyting to do with it as charlie never try's it on with rupert (entire whipp) and he wouldnt dare mount the girls!!

anyway he is driving me mad as he crys and crys and jumps on alfie even when alfies in his bed! lastnight he woke me up at 1.20am and i had to go down and shut him in the crate for the rest of the night :( sooo has anyone got any advice on how to handle this as im really at my wits end and it is getting worse every day.

Sorry Melanie , Ive no idea how to help :( I have the problem , but only when Ive bitches in season . Maybe a water pistol aimed at Charlie when hes naughty . or what about covering your lab with lavander oil

thanks jax, will try the lavander oil  i just cant understand why alfie has this affect on him, strange things men :- "

hi mel poor alfie i think the water pistol might work it worked for harvey when he keep jumping up at everyone i know its drifferent but its worth a try . other than that he can come and live with me :- " good luck :luck:

I'm afraid the answer is because Alfie is neutered, it must change the hormone scent they give off. It is a common problem between neutered and entire dogs.

But my Woody is neutered  and NOBODY has ever tried to mount him :sweating: :- "

He still is quite young - I wonder if choccy lab will still put up with it when Charlie is a grown-up? I know choc labs look sweet but I also know that they usually have no trouble letting others know when enough is enough

:( Im having the same problem with Ricky :(

Over the last 2 weeks, he has been trying to hump Tam. He does not jump on his back, more putting his head and neck over Tam's back and doing the motion  . He cry's and cry's too

Ricky does not do this with Robbie and there has been no bitch's here for 5 weeks.

He is doing my head in ;) I have been giving Ricky pig's ears and cigar chews to keep his mind of Tam, but it does not always work.

He going in the kennel soon or to see the vet

neutering animals of either sex can have bizarre effects. stella, mum to my amber, has started to mount cuddly toys, even her son, since she had her bits removed. its all about hormones and the smell they give off. plus, it could be his way of trying to assert authority over him. he knows he wont stand a chance against an entire male, and that a bitch not in season would put him in his place. adolescents of any species go through a phase, where they try to assert their adulthood and independence. as he cant boss you or the other dogs, your long-suffering lab is getting the brunt, :D . as he matures, he'll grow more secure in himself and his place in the pack, so it should stop.

i thought this to dessie, just wish aflie would tell him off instead of sitting there looking pathetic

there are some really good points you made lalena, it makes sence

I agree with Lalena about the dominance issue, when Sienna is in season she does it to Callie and I think it's because she feels vunerable and is just reminding callie that she's boss(not that callie cares if she's boss or not  ) I usually tell her in a firm way to stop although it is probably different for a male (w00t) :luck: :luck:

The head over the neck and the mounting is definately a dominance issue.

My 10 month old Lola has been a bit naughty lately and I have bought some dog training books. It seems that my Lola is trying to be the alpha female and asserting herself over our household and Macy my 2 yr old whippie. I have started following some of the ideas which at first I thought were a whole load of tosh!!!! But I have to say things have definately started to improve!!!! Honestly. I am now starting to feel in control and Lola is really calming down and not so bossy.

There are loads of books out there why not give it a go.

My entire boys find neutered dogs VERY attractive - about the same level as a bitch coming into season! A customer bought her 2 whippets down to visit which were both neutered, mine just spent the entire time drooling over them and doing the whole shaky jaw thing and then trying mount them (w00t) (w00t)

Alfie looks like a little saint o:)

Harry who is still a pup keeps trying to mount Dale who neutered

My neutered dog, who was neutered young, mounts the non-neutered male more than vice versa. It seems to be dominance rather than hormones.

the lavander oil seems to be working, thanks jax  although alfie was not a happy doggies when i put it on him, he went and lay in the crate as if to say fancy making me smell like a proper girl

charlie says thankyou dessie for your kind comment :D

Little Fynn is 10 months old, he likes girls and boys with no balls. He is trying to shag every-thing that moves at the moment (w00t) , and he is not fussy about which end either :b
