Hi all, Can anyone offer any advice regarding a young puppy going backwards :( with house training.

Our 1 year old whippet/greyhound bitch has, for the about the last week, started messing at night.

She sleeps in the kitchen and has been clean since she was about 16 weeks, apart from the odd accident. She had an upset stomach with the most foul smelling, liquid poo at the start of this but now it seems it has become a habit. Even if she goes outside before settling down it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Her diet hasn't altered (a propriety dried puppy mix) apart from a couple of days when she had some tripe. We stopped the tripe as I think this started the upset stomach. She produces 1 solid stool then after that they are very loose.

Sorry for the unusual nature of this post but I really would appreciate any advice.

cheers,

H.

see your vet re-loose stolls. they will probably advise a certain diet for her.

and once that is sorted if she is in the habit if going in the house buy a cage.... i put it off for a long time because i didnt like the idea of a cage but it was the best thing i ever bought. just treat it like her basket thou so its her safe little den to go in on a night.

good luck :luck:

definately go to the vets. overfeeding can often result in loose movements, but if she's been ill, as well as still so young, cutting down feeding without a proper consultation may do more harm.

aside from that, how is she in herself? bright eyed, alert etc? has she had her 1st season, or due in soon?

is it possible she's messing in the house because she's been holding it in? ie scared to go because it may hurt?

if it is just a dodgy tummy, switching to a light diet of boiled rice, chicken and fish for a couple of days will help.

good luck :luck:

It is worth getting her checked over by the vet, just in case she is having medical problems.

Its also possible she's intollerant to the dry food she's getting, also giving complete with raw can also upset a dog stomach as it takes the stomach different times to digest complete and raw.

My whippetxgrey could never tollerate complete and always had runny unpleasant poo's, in vast quantities.

i wouldnt rush to the vets sounds like the tripe has upset her give her a day or 2 to settle a fairly bland diet and i use kaolin morphine that you can buy over the counter at any pharmacy if then if no change see the vet if you go to the vets now they will have her on a special diet / blood test etc££££££££££££ most dogs have an upset stomach now and then make sure she is drinking plenty
