im after some advice please ) )

im taking rupert to his first show next month :sweating: and was wondering how much weight he should be carrying :unsure: its been years since i showed and willow didnt like it at all so havent botherd till now.

hes a bit of a picky eater and looks a bit thin next to the girls,(who are a bit fat if im honest :- " )

i feed complete for brek and tripe/mixer for tea, rup has suplement in his tea.

any advice would be much appreciated

Ideally, looking at a whippet in profile, you should see only three vertebrae at the rise on the topline. If you can see more than that and if you can place your fingers to rest easily in the hollows between each of his ribs then he is too thin.

If you can't see any vertebrae in his topline and if his sides are as smooth as a baby's bottom and you can't feel ribs at all then he is too fat.

Simplest way I could think to put it Melanie. )

the one in march is the oswestry open dawn, its just down ths road from me, but im going to take him to the whippet club cham in april to, just to see how he does and i like the club shows

Weight wise , I always look to see if you can see the dogs `pin `bones , these are what would be our hip bones , If they are dimples , your dog is over weight (w00t) < iI personnally just like to see that tops of the bones , very slightly mind Too much bone showing means the dog is under weight . Personnly Id sooner have a dog slightly under than over :wacko: , Shame I cant view myself with the same critisisum (sp) :lol:

Great advice from Lana and Jax..........Archie is in training trying to lose a bit more. I can't see any vertabrae, or pin bones, and he is as smoooth as a babies bottom (w00t)

I think it can be hard when they are young and still growning, mine seem to go up and down never fat but sometimes look thinner one day, not the next, depending on what they are doing if you know what I mean

im glad im not the only one with fat whippets :lol: ellie is more sort of fat in a soild way, shes a bigger chest then my oh :- " :- " on saying that out of all my dogs shes always the one still hunting while the rest of us are sitting in the car waiting for her to come back (w00t) (w00t)

One of my Whippets is on a light diet at the moment as she's got a bit too much extra weight. Her favorite hobbies are eating and having tum rubs, I hope she dosent read this as she wont be speaking to me for a while :lol: .

That is so true Lesley - I worry about him one day !- then OH comes in after 3 days away, and says god your fat dog - HUH (w00t) (w00t)
