is there anyone on here able to advise at all please,it seems people are reading my post but not replying,i am grateful for any help

You might be best posting this in the ped racing section :) . I race non ped's so not much help :(

:) I'm sure you'll get a reply when the right people with the right knowledge read your post this evening or over the next couple of days.

Daytime isn't always the best time to catch racing people who might be out at work or something - it might be that the people who have read yr post today but not commented are like me who know next to nothing and therefore can't really offer you any info :(

I'm sure someone will be along soon - be patient and keep checking the board ;) or like Susan says, post in the ped racing forum.

Just interested to find out what you plan on doing if you find out at this stage that it's not a good line to buy from

She isn't racing bred as such.

Sooty Sam was a very prolific sire (I think that he's died but I can't remember where I got that info from). At a guess the coursing people might know of more dogs with that breeding behind them. There is a lot of Laguna behind him as well as a bit of Martinsell and Shalfleet.

However I know of two dogs that have that type of breeding Gavin and Liz's (on here) Dandy is a Sooty Sam grandson with even more Laguna in him from the Sire's side.

Also a bitch racing as Go With The Flo who has Dark Mood behind her on the dam's side. Dark Mood is the same breeding as Sooty Sam.

Other than those's I can't think of any. Judy might be able to. If she doesn't spot your post then pm her.

Personally despite the fact that I race my show breds when I am buying a pup to race then I buy a racing bred pup. For reasons of size and speed. Just like showing it's a specialist hobby.

However I haven't heard anything bad about this line of whippets.

Hi Flapper, we have a blue bitch, she has sooty sam in her pedigree & alot of laguna. Now she has some funny way's with her, great in the house, very loving, but kaos on the race track, she like's to have a go at other dog's , but only at the track, when she is very hyper. Put her on a open field, and you want to see the buggar move, so quick on her turns, & great stamina. Now I know other dog's out of Sooty sam, who are as sound as a pound. :)

welcome flapper,

my old blue boy is Sam Sally, by Sooty Sam and out of Sally Honey, as said before these dogs have plenty of stamina,

I got him at three years old and raced him at the northern, passed injuries meant he was never much of a winner but his fantastic temperament made him invaluable to train the excitable youngsters with.

Sooty Sam was a big solid black dog and had a very strong coloured line and most of his prodgeny are either blue or black.

don't assume that because mike breeds primarily working dogs you can't do anything else with them, Sam Sally worked raced and coursed, and his son Niisyf Here's Oto does all these and shows as well.

What ever you decide good luck, :luck:

As far as I can tell, the Sooty Sam line seems to be a good working/coursing line. There are no top racing whippets from this line though so if you are looking for a racing dog then it would be better to go for a racing bred pup as Beejay has already said.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do, and welcome to K9

So Flapper , youve decided showing Whippets isnt for you ;) . If you want any advice about getting one fit for racing , Im always here to give advice

welcome to k9

Jackie and the MULCAIR WHIPPETS !!

Funny you should ask, he's currently thinking of getting a pup.

His dog blue out of sooty sam stands 23" (w00t) it really is a beast.

I think seeing Oscar is making him broody.

i'm off to find a picture of sooty sam will post in a few mins

don't know how tall he was but he wasn't small
