Hi all
While grooming my 13 year old gsd in July I noticed a small hard lump on his side. He has medication reviews (for Metacam and x2 50mg of tramadol daily) every 3 months with the vet for his arthritis - he's had arthritis in his front ankle for approx 3 years now.
I mentioned the lump at his med review in July, the vet checked it and told me to monitor it. About two weeks ago I noticed that the lump had suddenly doubled in size and he started licking it. I took him to the vets for a check up and the vet said they couldn't confirm what the lump is without carrying out a biopsy (they agreed that he is too old to go under anaesthetic for this) - so I was told to keep monitoring it. This week he started licking it again and it burst, releasing a lot of blood and some clear fluid. So I went to the vets today and they reckon it's a hematoma. I've been told to keep washing it with warm water, use antiseptic cream and to bandage it.
Also, he weighed 37.5kg in July and now weighs 34kg. But he still eats great.
Just wondering whether to get a second vet opinion... (I've attached a photo of it)
Thanks for any advice
