We are very proud to announce the arrival of 3 girls & 1 boy to our Holly (BIS Kana-ka Don't Ask Directions To Shenace) by frozen semen collected from Alex (AUST/NZ BISS CH Shenace Good On Ya).
For some odd reason, success with frozen semen down under is not terribly fruitful, more often than not resulting in no puppies & if you are lucky one or 2.
A thread was started a couple of months ago regarding stats etc... so I would like to share our experience & stat's in hope that it may result in further success for future breedings.
Holly was progesterone tested at day 9 (this was a Monday, I had expressed to the vets I was quite happy to do all the prog tests needed & knew how important they were in light of other K9 info), her levels were 4.9
2nd Progesterone test on Wednesday = 6.88, vets said leave it till Friday for the next test - kiwi's are quite laid back & I was a bit nervous not doing the day inbetween, however, they were the experts
3rd Prog test on Friday - day 13, levels 15.2 (perfect implant levels 12 - 20), she was surgically implanted 3 hours from taking the blood that morning.
Alex's semen was collected Camelot Farms System.
His sperm was 85% alive pre freeze (this can be higher if dogs have had a recent mating)
Out of the 85% alive pre frozen, 82% were normal (no broken tails, heads etc..) he had 725 million sperm (that's my boy (w00t) )
Post freeze 60% alive which is considered a good quantity - vet said 60% - 70% is very good & rarely they get over 70%.
They have a 90% success rate with Camelot Farms System
The next successful is ICSB (International Canine Semen Bank)
Then Straws - 50 - 60%
Clone virtually nothing.
From the one collection from Alex, there is enough for 3 matings, they used one mating on Holly - one vile/mating = 37 pellets.
Holly is a maiden bitch, Alex has produced well with live studs. Timing is CRITICAL as it the way the semen has been collected/frozen & I am thrilled to have 4 little creatures to drool over
Hope these stats help anyone down under with their AI's - for some odd reason, whippets have been more difficult to get into whelp - I know in Australia, one vet offers money back gaurantee with the Greyhounds as they have such huge success, can't see why whippets would be any different!
Here is a piccy of our AI litter.... will need a few pedigree names now please, going with the AI theme I have one name only... Shenace As I Am :huggles:
