get the socks out for tomorrow,,,and tape, he looks happy in his chill place. He will be 100% very soon,,,,they fantastci vets he had the op at,,,the best in scotland,,,alfie will be running about in no time

:lol: I'm just back from Tesco - I nipped round to buy some girls knee length socks and micro tape. He got his dressing off and the wound is looking really good considering - nice and neat and dry. He's desperate to get at it though and the lampshade collar the vet gave us didn't go down well at all :- He was also managing to still reach the very end of his wound as the collar was slipping too far down his whippety neck. Ian and I are taking turns to sit next to him and keep him away from it and he's finally gone to sleep so ok for now. We'll put the sock on before he goes to bed tonight.

Blue doesn't seem particularly phased about it at all. At the moment he is enjoying the snuggle zone -_-

Good Luck at the vets Alfie, the most handsomest of whippets even whilst sporting his blue and green alternative leg. If I lived closer I would come and sit with you in your chill place and we could chill together.

Aww, bless him. He still looks such a happy boy despite his poorly leg. What a lovely boy he is. We all send him lot of love and special whippet kisses, particularly uncle Frankie who is rather fed up of being kept quiet himself with his own recovery! :* :* :*

The tights suggested by one member worked really well on a body wound, they stopped unwanted attention but allowed the wound to breathe. I am not sure how they could be secured on a whippet leg. May stay on with some vetwrap over the elbow. My whippies go mad with the collar on. (who can blame them)

That's a good idea - I'll give tights a go! Alfie gets really quite distressed with the lampshade collar on and he's managing to get the sock off no matter how much vetwrap or tape I use. I ended up sleeping on the floor with him last night in the snuggle zone so I could listen out for licking sounds!!! Needless to say I didn't get much sleep at all but the leg is still looking nice and dry He had to have the collar on this morning as I needed to go in to work for a couple of hours but I've spent the afternoon sitting next to him making sure he doesn't lick the wound. I figure it's only for 9 more days so I'm going to try to avoid the collar as much as possible. He does seem to be leaving it alone a bit more this afternoon though so maybe it will get easier as the days go by.

Aww Jill he is so lovely and sooooooo like Gracie - I did a double take at the close up head shot of him. :wub: :wub: It looks like he's recovering well which is great news. Tilly had a HUGE external fixator on her leg which was horrendous and looked very uncomfortable although she managed so well. These little dogs really are humbling the way they cope.

Gracie's off to Rachel and Jo's for a few days tomorrow and they are going to take a decent photo of her and put it on their website. Gracie's a definite red fawn with less white than Alfie but have a look at their heads. Good luck with the rest and recuperation!

When Colt broke his leg,,me and john did night shifts with him. We got a blow up bed and slept next to him. I found it more difficult when he got his

dressing off,,and he had a sock on, he was always trying to lick the wound,,but i put a huge cong in with him,,he loved it,,kept his mind on his tummy lol,try the tummy trick,,,if he's thinking about it,,he will forget about the leg

:lol: I'll definitely try the tummy trick :lol: He slept much better last night (and so did I) and he isn't trying quite so hard to get at the wound today I'm actually finding it quite comfy in my sleeping bag in the snuggle zone -_- :lol:

Hope Alfie is better today,,they seem to improve with the bandage off,,but my heart was in my mouth a lot. Colt would try and roll in his cage,,,long legs everywhere,,he would never stay still for the sock to go on,,or a sock change,,but in the end,,a nice bone treat,,when changing his sock worked. He never seemed bothered with his broken leg,,he thought it was better,,,you Alfie will be the same,,daft pups for you lol :clown:

East Nuek are fanststic ortho vets,,Colts leg was fantasic,,straight too,,and to get the all clear to race him,,,I just could not do it lol,,,to scared,,,but he lives his life to the full,,a normal dog ,,Alfie will be very normal soon
