Who wil the breed judges be ?

Who wil the breed judges be ?
Magnus Hagstedt is our breed judge this year. A respected foreign judge and an East Coast location with a large Airport hub has pulled a great entry despite the economy.

Karen's (Seaspotrun) mother Carolyn Bowers is the puppy Futurity judge.

The primary concern for most of us is if the hotel is going to end up throwing us all out before the week is ended. That is a LOT of dogs and most of them are staying at the host hotel. They will be hammering the same small strips of grass and landscaping relentlessly.

We don't have the counts for lure coursing yet since entries have not closed for that. The National week begins with lure coursing (two trials).

OMG - that is FANTASTIC... I can even imagine to visualise that many whippets at one show - how VERY exciting!!!!! Will look forward to the results.

I can see where you are coming from , lets hope they 100% `pick up ` It only takes a few to spoil it for the rest of us to give dog folk a bad name.

I must admit on the walk to the NEC from the car park last week , on both trips there ,and back this year I didnt spot any`unwanted`presents left lying about ,. Mind you I was there very early -_-

Not alot you can do about wee wee s though is there

Yep nothing annoys ya more when people dont pick up!! or go and run/toilet their dogs where they are not meant to be!! they end up ruining it for everyone else!!

Rain dance...that's pretty much all you can do! A nice thunderstorm during the night every night to roll through and give everything a good soaking.

Most of our people are really good about picking up and believe me, there is always someone around to report you if they see you walking away from a fresh pile. Our show committee will definitely let you know about it if you are busted for non-scooping. But what happens at these things is that dogs come in from all over North America and a lot of them end up seeing new "bugs"--little protozooan gut parasites--that they have never been exposed to before. So, the week starts out with the walking areas staying nice and clean, but by about Wednesday you may see some stools starting to break down, and by Friday, the grass is covered with smears from where people are trying to bag runny piles.

I have had good success putting my dogs (all of them) on a prophylactic daily dose of flagyl the whole time we are there to prevent them picking up the dog show cruds that are an inevitable part of such a high dog-density situation.

Over 100 in the lure coursing on Saturday and 168 in the lure coursing on Sunday!!

The mind boggles at how we shall contrive to get all the runs in before dark! But with the field committee being very efficient and experienced, I am sure they will succeed.

Eating yoghurt made locally can help with this in humans - it might be worth trying it with dogs. :)

I hope someone finds the time to post some pics - so many whippets in one place will be an event to capture for posterity.

My best wishes to everyone attending The National, I hope you all have an enjoyable and successful time in whatever discipline you are taking part in. Tell Wendy (Chelynnah) and Nick (Mr Chelynnah) that we hope they have a great time and look forward to a pictorial account of their trip.

They are doing everything, I think, including the lure coursing, so you should be seeing lots of good Nick Pics when they get back.

Wendy has a lot of friends over here--I know she and Nick will have a great time. Now, if we can just gin up some sunshine and warm weather for our international visitors, that would be great.

I leave tonight. It's a two day drive.

God how I would love to be there!

Karen are you home yet?
Any results?
Results are up under the results button on the official 2009 AWC site.

And yes, I am home, but only after a return trip fraught with interest, as we had a major tire explosion on in the interstate in the motor home I was riding in. A few tense moments, followed by many hours of waiting for roadside assistance to arrive!

I am happy to report our Sav kids had a fine showing. They really did display their versatility.
