That's beautiful pic. Have been reading a bit, what's normal, sorry about word normal, flat coated, curly coated, field coats - thought i knew a lot about spaniels having nearly always owned a working springer - think I'm probably reading too much, and it all seems American?

If you are asking about the type of coat that the working type cockers have, they can vary quiet a lot.

Our working type cockers are not bred to a show bench design to look "just so" (although it is the same English Cocker) but for their good temperaments and good nature with the ability to work efficiently too, in looks they can vary tremendously some also grow fairly big and others will stay small. Could you imagine a show type with those very long ears and extremely long coats managing to get through huge bramble bushes, fallen trees and soggy dirty ditches. However some can with shorter coats and a good hair cut. My first 3 cockers were the show type and 2 of them used to work in the beating lines.

Working types are not bred to a design for the show bench, their coats vary, some are very short fine and silky, some thick and wavy, Of course if you spay/neuter them this can alter their coats too and make them go very woolly, (but not always).

The liver coloured ones very often have a lot of dead woolly fluff in their coats (this is without being neutered) it is just horrible but in most cases can be plucked out.

I think that I may have just got a bit "carried away" with all of that !

Enjoy your spaniels.

Best wishes

Thanks for your replies, they've been really helpful. Thought i had springers sussed, but now realise there's no such thing really, all dogs are different. Have posted a couple of pics on diet thread i started, now think she looks okay in pics! Hard work, but worth it.. mostly!!

The one on the left is Tigan, my current dog, and the Whippet is Willow my last dog. The pictures seem a bit blurry?

I will try to get one of Gypsy the subject of my username. We lost her soon after this was taken :(

Not sure why she is looking so startled. It was Christmas time so that might explain it :)

Beautiful - only when you mentioned one on left and right, can only see one above other? Along with the last pic, who i assume is Gypsy? Anyway, three beautiful pics of three stunning dogs...

More pics members, please...

Why is Willow sitting on top of a heap of ivy ?

L o v e Tigan !

Lovely pictures :)

Thank you.

Willow was a diva! She could not possibly lay on hard ground or wet ground. A nice mattress of ivy? Don't mind if I do!
