I know it's not in the same bracket as El Diabalo and Saxon Golds terrifying injuries, and along with everyone else, hope and pray that they effect a full recovery...... :luck:

But Barnstubbles' trap opened slow yesterday and he piled into the gate....We have just returned from the vets and he has broken a bone in his face, at the top of his muzzle. He will have to be x rayed tomorrow to see how bad the damage is..If the bone is still attached then it may just be left to heal on its' own, if it has come loose altogether and is floating about, he will have to have an operation to have it removed.....He can't be x rayed today, cos he's had his breakfast, and so can't be aneathsatised safely, so he has had pain killers and anti inflamitories for today..

So he's definately out of the Indi this weekend, and may be out of the Champs, if they have to operate.. :(

As June Joniqk says on another thread, it does make you wonder about it all...Barns' little accident happend in the same race as that in which Diesel collapsed..(he was out on his own, not near another dog, when he collapsed)...I thought that something had happened to hurt them both, at first...But it was just a terrible coincidence......Needless to say, the meeting was abandond :(

Poor Barnstubble hope that the bone is still attached and that he won't have to go through an op.

Poor lad. :(

It did look quite nasty John, poor boy hope he gets well soon and doesn't need and op :luck: :luck: :luck:

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you all had a bit of a day of it yesterday. Good luck for recoveries, all 3 dogs :( :luck:

Hope Barney is OK John and it doesn't hurt him too much. Has he got a big bruise?

I didnt know that had happened John :( hope things go ok :luck:

Jo mentioned it, sorry to hear about it!

Hope he's not out too long!

Poor Barney :( what a terrible day for the racing dogs yesterday :( And what an unusual injury for Barney, I have never come across that before - do hope he recovers well :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

One of my whippets apparently did this crashing face-first into another whippet. Luckily she didn't need surgery. Hope all is well and his face isn't too sore :luck: :luck: :luck:

He hasn't got a bruise, Judy, but there is a bit of a swelling, and when he breathes, his skin moves, between and just beloww his eyes, where the bone is missing (w00t)

He seems amazingly oblivious of the injury, he is still eating, but he is a bit subdued.

I'm worried about putting him in traps in the future, as I think he will be left with this "soft spot" on his face....I'll have to get him a different design of muzzle, so that it rests on different parts of his face....I think much of the damage was done by his muzzle being jammed onto his face as he hit the gate, with what must have been considerable force (w00t) ......I'm sure he will be ok in a few weeks..

His racing diet has been suspended, he's getting spoiled at the moment.

He was being so brave yesterday John I think thats why it didn't seem too bad at the time, he just looked like he had a nose bleed didn't he, poor fella must have really hurt too, he is really lovely BTW

He didn't think much of the idea of no brekki this morning.......and even less when dad abandoned him at the vets :sweating: :( ........He enjoyed his early morning walk, even if I did make him wear his coat, and didn't let him off the lead

We have to ring this afternoon to find the results of the x ray.....fingers crossed

:luck: :luck: :luck: hope all goes well John :luck:
