Just wondered if anyone knows what is best to put down on an ants nest I have one at the bottom of my garden and there are hundreds of the horrible things  I have tried the powder but it hasn't worked . I used that as it was pet safe. Has anyone used anything else that has worked? There are flying ants amongst them as well (w00t)

Boiling water!!!!! Insecticide spray, good luck. Or a blow torch.

Ooooooooh Anne, you murderer you!!! LOL. I agree, boiling water and lots of it.

boiling water ...and when their dead try and see where they are coming from and put some powder or gel down.....

I've got one of those Nippon ant bait thingys, but its been down about 2 weeks now, and the little blighters are still there outside my front door. I'd kill them with boiling water, but apparently you have to kill the queen to get rid of the lot. We had them in the house a few months back, and I had Raid ant baits then, and within a week they were gone! Good luck - yuk I hate them!

They are sort of coming out of holes in the earth near to where I have three slabs and little stones. They seem to be running all over the three slabs and around that area and are even on the lawn now!! They are freaking me out!!! Never thought about boiling water, might try and get gel tomorrow as well, as the ant powder I put down yesterday and today is totally hopeless  Thanks for everyone's help

we always get them in the same area in our conservatory.......i put a tiny drop of gel covering the gap they were coming out of and my son sat and watched them staggering about and dying

it took a few goes to get them to go for good

When I first moved into this house 8 years ago I had them in my lounge and the flying ones were in my bedroom (w00t) I had to get a pest company out to spray around the skirting boards twice and they charged me £220 but it did get rid of them. They were at the front of my house then due to the creep of a neighbour next door having a horrible bush thing growing up my wall as well as his. Once I told him I didn't want it growing up my side and wanted it cut down they vanished as they were nesting under it, the pest woman said!!! Though he said I was talking rubbish and I didn't have any ants   I will go back to the garden centre tomorrow and see what else they have. I am just a bit worried about putting anything down that doesn't have pet safe on it as I don't want Megan licking it and maybe getting poisoned when she is out for a wee in the garden. I will just have to keep her out of the garden for a week or so if I put something stronger down

Good luck getting rid of them from your front door also :luck: :luck: :luck:

Oh good the Gel sounds promising then :) I could squeeze it into the holes I see in the earth that they seem to be coming out of, that's if the rain doesn't wash it all away

:( Unless they are in the house or biting you i'd leave them alone as they will eat all the nasty green/black flies which would destroy the rest of your plants

Having said that...I was bitten by a flying ant once & I'd have gladly murdered that one as it really hurt & my ankle swelled up twice it's normal size

Hope you sort the problem out somehow.

I'm a big fan of bleach......for nasty pests :-

takes no prisoners!

raid wasp and flu spray stuff works wonders,

we have been digging up the back garden, there is ants everywhere but most dont rally bother us, but we lifted a big slab and under it it was swarming with ant and maggots :x :x

as we had already used all the ant powder in the green house all i had, was wasp killer spray so we sprayed them and with in about 15seconds they were dropping of the slab and with in a min everything on the ground stopped moving,

dont know how dog safe it is (didnt matter to us as we were covering it over again) and i dont think its a cure, as like you said you need to kill the queen,

hope you can get rid of them all soon, :luck:
