Hi there I have 2 hairless dogs 1 has allergy’s which we are trying to find the source of at the moment. My vet suggested I get some over the counter chlorphenamine 4mg tablets and to give one twice a day. They are not enough but I have been reading on other dog pages that their vets have told them to give cetirizine and piriton ones which are stronger. Has any one had any experiences with these.

I keep Piriton for emergencies like bee and wasp stings - ¼ tablet per 10 kilo of dog is the normal dose but please, please check with your vet before giving it.

Years ago I used baby piriton, not sure it’s still about, when my dogs get a wasp sting I just gave them one of mine which at the time was always in my pocket and it settled him within 15 to 20 mins,

My vet told me dogs were only allowed Piriton. ....also be careful on dosage as it appears its different with each different make ....

Thanks everyone. I wouldn’t give any medication without being told by the vet it’s just they all say something different so I would like to know what other people are doing or have been told they are allowed to do so I can be armed with information when I see my vet.

My vet says PiriTON is safe but PiriTASE is not, so be careful when you buy.

Both my vet and senior nurse have said that Piriton is safe to use. I would never use anything else.
.

The dog of one of my friends gets cetirizine, half a tablet, if he suffers from pollen allergy.

I'm currently giving my dog 2 piriton a day on my vet's instructions because of his intense pollen allergies. Seems to work a treat! Good luck, Sandra.
