Max is now 3.5 years old, we gained him at 11 months, his previous owner had him to show but his nature just isn't right...too friendly. He is a thief, can open door, empty bins, but the main problem is although he is housetrained, he can't go over night without having to get up to go down the garden at least once, sometimes twice, which is driving DH to distraction. Him and Hudson ( 4.5 years and can sleep all night and not get up and has been dry overnight several years) and Floyd ( cross bred greyhound) who can proabably go with going down the garden for 18 hours, sleep in the bedroom with us, Max and Hudson on the bed. Anyone any advice...

:) He could just be having you going and has made a habit of it, what happens if you tell him to lay down and don't take him out??? one of my dogs started to ask to go down in the middle of the night, he didn't want a pee, but just wanted to eat his biscuits, so i took the biscuits up before bed and now he knows there nothing to go down for...Hope this might help, but yours really should be able to go all night by now. :) Diane.

my tia has been dry throu the night up untill a couple of nights ago but she has been crying about 5/6 oclock to go out and by that time is busting as one morning she didnt even make it to the kitchen door and had to go were she was bless her ,im putting it down to she maybe coming into season very soon ,maybe he is trying it on ,try ignoring him and see if he settles back down to sleep when he thinks no one is paying any attention to him ,it may work :)

i too have to get up with mine every night and have done for the last 4 years now  ,if im a hour late i can sometimes expect a puddle or two

its a way of life for me now,i wake automatically

I only take 1 of our 7 whippets up to bed with me, well she is 13.

About 18 months/ 2 years ago she would get me up during the night. I let her out but when she came back in she would want a drink of water. So from then I have a bowl in my bedroom and she is fine.

Probably not any help in your situation as I expect you already do this, but since I got Jinny, I started staying up until 11.30pm or later, so that she had her last wee very late. From the first night she has slept through until around 7am and the only time she has woken me during the night is if she has eaten late and needs a poo :)

I've done the same with Ella and sometimes I have to wake her up in the morning to go out (w00t) .

I have noticed, however, that neither of them drink much during the evening and I keep a bowl of water in the bedroom in case they need a drink during the night. Maybe they just don't have any need to wee

They both sleep with me and 7-8 hours without going out seems fine for them, although I think the girlies can hold their bladders better than the boys  .......nothing new there, then :- "

I need the bathroom now

Have you ever had him tested to see if he has any waterworks problems??

Most dogs once they are fully house trained can go all night, I know some don't and its often down to medical reasons.

All 3 of mine go all night and my youngest is 4 days shy of 8 months.

The only time one of mine has to get up and then its rare, is when she gets a bladder infection.

We tried ignoring him but he stratches the door, and gets quite persistant....but at other times he seems to be able to got for quite a long time. I'm going to try the vet in case their is a medical issue, then chance the puddle by ignoring him if there is nothing medically wrong, thanks for the advice

When I stay at my Mum's house overnight, I only let Fred out into the garden last thing at night (9pm-10pm) and he always needs to go in the very early hours of the morning. (I've now fallen down the stairs twice recently because I've been half asleep and not used to her steeper stairs (w00t) :p ).

At home he gets taken out for a 10 minute walk (I don't have a secure garden to let him out in) around 10pm and this usually sees him through the night.

I think the key is that I ensure that he goes for a number of protracted wees and not just a hurried wee so he can come back in doors again! :- "

he also sleeps under our quilt at night, at the foot of the bed, so he stays warm. If he gets chilly at night he tends to want to go for a wee.

Hope this is of help :)

Must say mine have bladders of steel mostly.

Scarlett is in season and does tend to be a right fidget bottom at mo  .

My boys pee like bitches still, and only cock legs now and again.

I think they just love to pee on front paws and have something to lick :x
