My breeders are 2-300 miles away from me! Were very supportive. It wasn't as easy as if they'd been closer, but it wasn't a problem. We did have a good ringcraft and found a few whippet people close-by at the ringcraft who were extremely helpful.Ridgesetter said:My only advice to a novice handler wishing to compete in any breed is to try and have the breeder close by to support you. I realise this is not always as easy as it sounds. Other exhibitors may not be so forthcoming with helpful hints - after all, you are competing against them so many will not give you a tip that might help you beat their dog. That's human nature.
We also found that whippet people were actual very helpful both at Open Shows and at Champ Shows. They were very willing to give us a bit of help. At my first show someone behind me outside the ring whispered some very helpful comments to me about how I was presenting Savvy. I don't remember what they were specifically, but I will always remember how nice that was. And later on when Savvy rolled in an exploded pen a minute before entering the ring - many people ringside saw it as we walked in and pulled together to give me some wipes and things to help get it off before we got to the table. Turned out a couple of them were on this board (thanks again Millie!).
So if your breeder isn't close enough there are plenty of whippet people out there who are willing to give you a hand.
