the owner of one of Whiz's pups from last year has rung me today to ask for advice.
their pup, Sooty has been in the vets for the last two weeks with what looks like a kind of poisoning.
it started two weeks ago when his muzzle started to swell very rapidly, his lips were crusty, he was salavating
a lot and the inside of his mouth was ulcerated. he was in a lot of pain and when taken immediatly to the vets
had a temperature of over 40.
the vets initially thought poisoning but blood tests and swabs have come back negative.
the swelling has now gone down and the ulcers are under control with antibiotics. his temperature is still
up and down, and his weight has gone from 12.5kg to 8.7kgs. the vets were talking about starting him on steroids
tomorrow. he has actually stood up and wagged his tail under his own steam this morning which sound promising
but he is so up and down that his owners are frightened to bring him home in case he goes down hill again.
he is still very lethargic and although is eating ok continues to lose weight... the vets dont seem to know what it is
or what could have caused it.
so has any one dealt with or heard of any thing like this before? i am hoping to go to the vets tomorrow to see him for myself,
i can only think of local irritants, allergies or poison but thought i would ask you as i know there is lots of knowledge and advice
to be had here.
thanks.
