Haven't a clue where to start so need help. He is desperate to work and is 2 year old. Can I train him? He is a saluki, greyhound x with good recall unless he is chasing something esp deer and he's gone.

thanks

this is a copy of the pm you sent me tonight.hope you dont mind me posting it here as you said you havent worked out how to put posts on the site yet but can pm.i thought it would elicit better replies in the public domain as theres more people here who have lurchers and so can help you.im a bit lost here as you state the previous owner got rid cos he wouldnt chase deer but in your post here you say hes mad for it!maybe someone here can help you out? ;)

Hello

Hope you don't mind me writing but i saw yr post on the training forum and liked it.

Call me daft but I still haven't worked out how to post a message on this site yet.

My name is Jacky I have a lurcher 2 yr old who chases and kills. He chases all livestock. I need help with training if it's not too late. He doesn't chase our animals, chooks although we don't have cats.

Please help. No way can we part with him now. He was bred for deer hunting but wouldn't chase so the guy gave him to us, that's a joke!!

He needs more stimuli than a walk in the forest or run in a field.

kind regards Jacky

I am part of a club called ACES (Athletic Canine Enthusiast Society) We have a bit of land that we use for straight running at the mo, we also have an oval track in construction, we run days every month where dogs run 100 meters (timed) we have done coursing but only in preparation for coursing events.

We are 20 mins south of the M25, located on the A23, if you would like more info please feel free to PM me.

Although most of our members own Bullbreeds be assured we welcome any breed of dog of any level of running.

If dogs do not have crates for intervals between racing we have a secure holding area!

Days include

4 X 100 meter timed run

Aframe area (running dogs can do this if they so wish)

Boomer ball area (running dogs can do this if they so wish)

Flirt pole area (running dogs can do this if they so wish)

Long jump (running dogs can do this if they so wish)

Mill (running dogs can do this if they so wish)

We may be able to get the vertical climb to some of the days too (running dogs can do this if they so wish)

Pics of the above !

December 07, snowing, a day held in aid of SBT rescue, all money raised went to Joanna Masons rescue (Sussex)

Please feel free to PM me for any further information, really happy to help!

With the bullbreed we have people releasing and people catching, all dogs are always secure, enough people to help out for you to re-inforce the recall for your dog, the days really are a ball, full of great people, real good fun!

Here is me and my Ripley from the weekend, I and a group from ACES attended the Banbury coursing event, my Ripley won our group (only against bullbreeds) his trophy says "The coursing crew simulated coursing champion"

Thanks guys. What a lot of info and lovely pix, thanks for taking the time to tell me all about it. I am sure my boy would love to do some of that. I worked out how to reply but don't know how I got on here. Always in a hurry but will take time to learn how to post on here :)

bfn :)

There is also the Sussex long dogs association who run race meetings from March to November on their own track at Hellingley on the A22.

They have a web site www.sussexlongdogs.org.uk

They have 3 races over 150 250 & 350 yards also sprint and marathon compertitions and hopefully lure coursing again this year as foot and mouth forced it to be canceld last season.

There are rosettes and trophys to be won and it is a friendly atmosphere

there ya go then.loads of help and advice for you ;)
