I'm sure that there used to be a New Forest Terrier and Lurcher Club, but at the NF show last week no one seemed to know any thing about it - I asked the CA people. (Also got told by the coursing people that 'lurcher' was a swear word :b  )

I'm near the hants / dorset border - anyone know of my nearest club? (I'd like some practical help with working them - not really into showing).

I have just had to laugh as we know a lady at the NF show on the coursing stand and I know that she says Lurcher is a swear word.

I just read your post out to my OH and he says it might have been him! He was there Tuesday and Wednesday. He loves lurchers really, and is trying to fight my requests for one! He knows I love your Rupert. Sorry if he offended you he didn't mean it really! Its only illegal coursers that got his sport banned that he has anything against.

 Small world! I think it was the Tuesday I spoke to them (I was there all three days), so maybe it was your OH - a chap with a beard I think? Anyway, no offence taken - I thought it was said tongue in cheek :p

I was at the show on Tues & Thurs [missed out the rainy Wed]. We were talking to the coursing guy for ages and I remember that there use to be a dog show there but seems nobody else can remember that. I am sure it was before all the foot and mouth. Did you enjoy the show, I love it, really enjoyed watching the terrier racing - so funny. :D So did Sid my whippet, he didn't take his eyes off the lure. Off to the Ellingham Show on the 13th do you go there?

Phew! My OH doesn't have a beard, he would have been the youngest one there. I think I know who you mean though. OH did the coursing talking in the ring Tues and Weds.

Hi Avon, I didn't get to go. I nearly took the Tuesday off and wished I had when I heard about the flower tent, the hawks flying, and the deerhounds etc etc! It was too long to leave our dogs for if I went too, as it was a two hour journey home. As it turned out my exhaust pipe fell off Wednesday and OH beat me home!

As most of the shows are in the week, I don't go. OH has more leave than me.

PS Tab, did Ruperts sister find a home?

That's right, I remember now, the terrier / lurcher dog show used to be held at New Park too - I popped along to have a look one year, late 90s? I have googled and come up with the name 'New Forest Lurcher, Terrier and Ferret Club'. I guess it may have disbanded now...

I love the New Forest Show and Ellingham is good too - we usually take one of the ponies along, but not this year though. In the past I have helped out with the ferrets on the Wessex Ferret Club stand at the NF show, not for years though - I'm still a member but not really involved now - didn't recognise anyone :b The terrier racing does look loads of fun - I'm sure my Bedlington would love it :D
