Hello,

I would very appreciate someone’s experience with the above.
Our 8 years old lab had the above surgery, she used to limp on and off. She is now a week after surgery and she is limping hundred times worse than before . I feel awful for putting her through a surgery which made it worse.
I spoken to the surgeon, but he is just saying she needs stronger painkillers.

I would like to k ow if there is anyone on here who’s dog went through the same operation and what was their experience and if the same thing happened to them.

Thank you

Lucie

I can't comment on elbow arthroscopy in dogs, but I had knee arthroscopy back in September and a week after the op I was still on crutches and walking much worse than before! Two months later it's still a little swollen and I have a very slight limp, but am almost back to normal. So hopefully this is simply part of the recovery process and once she's through it, she'll feel the benefit of the op.

Don't hesitate to go back to your vet if you're still concerned though.

Hi Lucie, I had this with my previous dog. It is a pretty long process and all depends if theres any arthritis as well. On the whole mine was put on near complete rest for 2-3 weeks (try telling that to your dog). His limp was much worse during that time. We then had to very slightly increase his excerise time by a minute a week. He also had to have physio after a couple month to help the joint recovery.
If I remember correctly it was around 14 weeks later that I started to see improvement. We still always had good and bad days afterwards BUT there were a lot more good days than bad.
