My two whippets have been attacked several times and now they think the best form of defence is to warn off the other dogs with as much gusto as possible  , so I am trying to control two demented whippets and appologise to other dog owners for their behaviour. I make sure I only let my dogs off when no others are around (mind you they are fine off the lead and the one will run away while the other wants to play) but still people let their dogs off the lead and they run up to mine when they see I have mine on their leads and are trying to keep them under control. Well we have been trying everything to calm the situation stones in a bottle to distract them, food and walking the other way when we see any dogs approaching :( Yesterday me, my husband and dad were just returning from a walk and had passed two dogs and the boys were great so things were fine . Only to have a dog who had escaped from it's backyard run up behind us and attack Pete, my dog didn't fight back he was in shock, the terrier cross would not stop in the end my husband had to kick it , it let go but came back so I flapped my coat at it and it came for me then ran off. We thought it had bitten the end of Pete's tail off :(   blood everywhere, anyway it was still intact but we have bathed it and now dressed it 3 times the bleeding has just about stopped. He has a puncture wound to his leg and several little nips over his body :( . We thought it would mean a visit to the vets but things are ok, not sure if he will need antibiotics. Took him just to the end of the street and while I was picking up their poo :x   a dog and his owner walked up behind us (on the other side of the road) and my dogs went mad , now we are back to square one  , all this and my boys had done nothing  Poor Pete he looks so sorry for himself.

Hi,

My Whippet was attacked by a staffie last year and had to be put to sleep. My dog was on the lead, the dog leapt from the back of a car and attacked him.It took me months to have the confidence to walk my other two dogs.I started having panic attacks etc.The case went to court, and their is now a control order on the dog, under the dangeroue dogs act.I am still terrified of staffies, although i know they are not all viscious!!You must have been terrified,i really sympathise.

:huggles:

for your wee man and I would suggest a riding crop carried 'obviously' to control your own dogs and perhaps 'inadvertantly' used in self or canine defence!!

Was out walking Trouble & Niki, one night last week, and was attacked by a terrier 1st,and then a great brute of a Rotwielder, came flying at us from nowhere.I had to yank the 2 pup's back so sharply, that Niki went into the air(front end),and before she got back far enough, the brute had her by the foot, and would'nt let go.All i could do was kick and fling at him,and i eventualy got him on the nose or summit, and he released hi grip. Her front foot was torn,(2 toe's)which could'nt be stitched. Now Niki is absalutely terified of me,as i got her a couple of time's when i was kicking the Rotty. When i approach her,she urinate's,something she never did before in her life.I did'nt contact the owner's,as this kind of thing has happened several time's,and as they are a bad family,no one want's the hassle.Ive reported it,so will sit back, and see what,if anything happen's.Have my own method's,if all else fail's.

OH FOR F**KS**KE when will this end!!!

So sorry to hear this Billy :( poor darlin Niki can't stand to think of her weeing if you go near her just keep telling her" its alright" and give her lots of reasurring cuddles :huggles: :huggles: from us too :huggles: :huggles:

Those F**kers :- "

:( So many irresponsible dog owners, so many dogs who are aggressive because of their owners, I agree, where will it end? It ends with kids being attacked etc. It is bad enough a dog attacking another dog but it doesn't stop there and the responsibility lies with the owners of the dog. Bring back dog licences, I don't mind paying to keep my dog, and I'm not wealthy by any means but I am responsible. In the mean time I carry a big walking stick, and I'm not afraid to use it !! LOL

Billy, that is so sad, poor Niki - obviously you didn't mean to hurt her but you can't explain that to her. :huggles: Maybe some really yummy food from you to her might help her overcome her fear?

this also angers me beyond words.on Sunday our two girls had a run in with a staffie  :(

it was an awful moment that seemed to go in slow motion.

the chap saw us too late to put his obviously nasty dog on to its lead - he actually shouted WATCH OUT as his awful dog launched itself at my girls - by saying this he quite clearly knows that his dog is a problem.

i managed to grab bean and put her on a lead, talulla was still loose and looking so unsure - usually she greets dogs, wags and then they have a game - she just could not understand why this dog was being so nasty.

luckily for us the owner managed to grab his dog before too much damage was done - i am very thankful that talulla was wearing a coat as the dog latched on to this rather than her skin.

the man then proceded to beat his dog which in my humble opinion is just going to make the dog even more aggressive.

i screamed like a mad woman at the guy asking him why if he knew his dog was aggressive did he not have it on a lead and/or muzzled.

i truly send all my best wishes to you and your dogs - we had a near miss compared to you

i send my love x

tracy, talulla and bean
