Has anyone out there heard of Australian Mix/Australian greyhound mix? If so is it any good and where can I buy it? Many thanks :)

I used it years about 10 years ago, the dogs ate it and it does smell very nice when soaked, but it was just not for my dogs. I went back to red mills, but use Chudleys now.

You should be able to buy it at your local greyhound track, most have a stocked up van that goes when triels and racing is on.

ive just started it last week. it seems to tick all the boxes for the right stuff. ive been told because of the creatine in it its best to feed a bag or 2 of it then a "milder " content bag as it can be hard on a dogs liver. id appreciate an experienced persons views on this.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought creatine shouldn't be fed to animals as it can cause them to get poorly. Because its a human enzyme, that produced naturally but can be copied as a suppliment.

And I believe it was banned for the use in race horses.

Its used by body builders to increase staminer whilst training.

Just to add Creatine is also used because the supplementation increases the availability of energy to working muscles, serving to enhance athletic performance.

I'd say it was good for racing greyhounds. As a food for non racing dogs it's a bit over the top IMO.

It can be bought at most greyhound tracks I should think or if not ask any of the ghd owners and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

I don't know how much creatine is in it but I suspect not much. Creatine is present in all meat. 5g of creatine per 1kg meat as a rule of thumb. Supplementation for a 60kg human is at 5g per day and so a 20kg dog fed a meat based diet ought to get enough creatine from the meat alone.

I use Australian when the dogs are racing to supplement their meat and rice/veg diet and Chudleys when their work load is lighter. Probably a good idea to give them a break from the Australian every couple of months or so.

Australian has a good oil content and high protein content. The high protein is good while rebuilding muscle tissue during racing but is too high for a normal diet IMO.

Hi all, many thanks for your replies. My Mother-in-law was asking me yesterday if I had heard of it she works for a greyhound rescue and had heard about it. Not the food to be giving to any of them! :- "
