two whippet/collie crosses, black and white, at rescues, advertised on freead sites:

Glen Rescue Centre, Co Roscommon

Flash a handsome and very fast whippet x collie lurcher.

One year old and looking for a special home for a few months now, needs a special home who can give lots and lots of excercise and training. "I am a real athlete and very smart, I need a really dedicated kind of owner to put all my talents to use."

7th Heaven, N Ireland

Bobbie, a 4.5year old collie/whippet cross. Extremely loving and good natured. Great with kids. Loves the out doors and playing with other dogs. Unfortunately the owner is ill and can't look after her now. Could you give her a new home?

VERY handsome brindle dog looks very like a pure saluki though I suppose he's a crossbred saluki

the gorgeous Hector, the brindle saluki type who was at Dunboyne pound last month, has got a secure rescue place, I hear, with Greyhound Rescue West of England http://www.grwe.com

Sad news for anyone in Ireland who would want to adopt him, good news for someone in England or Wales, and probably offers Hector the best chance of finding a good longterm home.

Another absolutely charming lurcher has landed in Dunboyne: Jack lovely black and tan with white markings, looks young, loves people

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=79852

There is also a pretty blue lurcher at Craigavon pound, Co Armagh, N Ireland -- looks like a petite greyhound (but bigger than a whippet). also a medium sized black with white male. I

don't think Craigavon has anyone who works hard like Martina to see that many of the dogs do leave the pound for a better life (too many of our pound dogs get killed instead)

http://www.craigavon.gov.uk/environment/en...og-control.html

Ref 2264, Lurcher, Female, William Street, Lurgan, date taken to kennels 5/10/11, date rehoming can take place from 11/10/11

Ref No: 2267, Lurcher dog, Tarry Drive Lurgan, date taken to kennels 6/10/11, date rehoming can take place from 12/10/11

URGENT

CO ARMAGH

I don't know the fates of the dogs who were previously in Craigavon pound. There is now an attractively coloured brindle lurcher, looks quite small in the photo, maybe whippet cross (looks stockier to me than a pure whippet), at Craigavon

Ref No 2310, Lurcher Male, Lurgan, date taken to kennels 25/10/11, date rehoming can take place from 31/10/11

CO DUBLIN (dog microchipped to uncontactable Belfast owners)

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....c=79934&hl=

in Dunboy pound stocky fawn male smoothhaired lurcher

Picked up: Greenfort Est. Clondalkin, Co Dublin

In: 26/10/11 Needs out: Wednesday 2nd November

"Maddox is a quiet boy who seems resigned to being in the pound. He is microchipped with a number in Belfast but so far the pound have not been able to contact his owners. If you can help him please post, pm or call Martina on 086 3871498." (country code for phoning republic of Ireland nos is 353)

CO WICKLOW

tall greyhound type lurcher found in Bray. Apparently Wicklow pound has a high 'destruction' rate so someone has stepped in to keep the dog this weekend to keep him from going to the pound. I hope she will write about the dog's personality (not that it can be fully assessed in such a short time as dogs take time to come out of their shells). I stress that this is an emergency foster and a longer term foster home or rescue place is needed.

Carrickfergus pound in N Ireland is one of the better ones, but they do get overcrowded sometimes so can't keep all the dogs alive if rescue places or homes aren't found. The pound has a lot of sighthounds needing homes or rescue places at present. The lurchers are all shorthaired.

http://www.irishanimals.ie/adoptagreyhound.html

all on this page are sighthounds, at the moment at least 4 of the dogs listed are whippets or whippet-crosses

These dogs are in safer keeping than dogs in pounds

NIAR lists a black male whippet ~8 mos old, housetrained, at Downpatrick pound, Northern Ireland 22 Nov. This dog isn't featured at the Corran Kennels website, but if you are interested in adopting or fostering this dog you can enquire directly to Corran Kennels. See their website for details: http://www.corrankennelsandrehomingcentre.co.uk/default.html

A female brindle lurcher came into Derry City Council pound, Pennyburn, this week. In the photo she looks like a whippet but I'm told she is much larger than a whippet. I don't live far from this pound. The rep of Rainbow Rescue and Rehoming who came to pick up my foster collies, bound for a Staffordshire rescue, told me the lurcher is a nice dog. Well, if anybody trustworthy tells me they would definitely have her and can arrange transport, I would be willing to have her for short-term rescue from next Tues (Monday in a pinch). She is a surrender, so please contact the pound and Rainbow to reserve her. At least one of the wardens, Malachy, has been helpful in keeping dogs a bit longer when guaranteed someone is coming for them shortly. I can't do an open-ended foster; I need to know there will be a place for the lurcher to go to.

picture of the Derry lurcher near the bottom of this page: http://www.rainbowrehoming.com/adopt/dogs_line1.htm

Rainbow is taking 19 canines across to rescues in England this weekend, but they can't afford the £s or the human-power to organise transports very frequently.
