TJ gets a recurring problem on one hock joint. I call it his 'baggy hock' as the skin gets very puffy and looks fluid filled, although it never comes to a head and bursts but it does have lesions on it that scab over.

My Vet has prescribed numerous courses of antibiotics over varying periods of time and it will heal up only to break out again a few weeks later. She has taken skin scrapings, aspirated fluid off and nothing untoward shows up so she has not got a clue why it happens.

I have tried Aloe Vera gel, Tea Tree cream, Germolene topically all to no avail.

I have thought about Colloidal Silver but have no experience of it.

Any ideas anyone????

Could there be a tiny foreign body in there, say 1/2 a grass seed? Next time would it be worth getting the Vet to make a tiny cut to see if anything comes out. Also I'd soak the hock in warm salt water to keep the would open. I had a cat that had the same sort of thing, the soaking really did the trick. I did it 4 times a day and used a large vase (it was a front paw).

That 's a good idea- my vet always says soak that sort of thing in a solution of epsom salts. Nana had a wierd lump on one of her toes and this worked for that.

I once had a gsd with a "capped hock"

She had this problem while she was in whelp during a hot summer & it was caused by her insisting on lying on the cold concrete in the shade.

As soon as she had the pup's & was off the hard ground,the hock went back to normal :thumbsup:

HAD THAT LAST FEB WITH MY COLT. FLUID WOBBLY BAG TYPE THING? IT WENT AWAY ITSELF AFTER ABOUT A WEEK. I USED DIFFERENT RUBS ETC BUT REALLY I RECKON THE FLUID JUST DRIED UP. DONT KNOW WHY IT APPEARED IN THE FIRST PLACE, IT DIDNT CAUSE ANY PAIN AT ALL BIT LOOKED GRIM.
