One of my whippets is almost completely bald on his underside/ chest area. The rest of him is covered in brindle fur apart from behind his eyes on either side of his forehead where his fur is very thin and nearly balding but not quite and actually may be thickening a wee bit. Is this common and does anyone have whippets with balding in the ares described above. Johnathan

My Grace (see below) is like that too. And she tends to get bald patches on her thighs too in winter. Would love to be able to get her to grow more fur!

Hi Jonathan, Our two Swift and Fynn have very little hair on their chest area also  i think its in the genes of the breed

One of mine is like this as well. I did a bit of research and found that whippets and greyhounds are genetically predisposed to losing hair in these areas. Their hair is very prone to breaking off near the root which is what gives the baldy appearance. Also, it is supposed to be worse in Winter so comes back thicker once Spring starts. Mine are totally healthy so I'm not worried. The worst bit is that they seem to go bald on the front of their neck as well - I've tried different collars but it makes no difference and mine only wear their collars for a couple of hours a day anyway, when we go for walks. The rest of the time they don't wear them.
