j :- " hn

pmsl.........i hate that as well

Tinker** aka - Kim

I hate all the Da, Dat, kind of talk- and it takes me ages to read it!! fair enough shortening some things but it takes the P!

I think it started because text messages cost so much so people used a shorter version to cost less :)

It is a bit annoying though :D

I think you remove all the vowels ??

Am I the only person in the whole wide world who has never texted.

Jenny

I think you might be Jenny!! (w00t)

Yes for those who do not use texting it can be difficult to understand.

I have found sometimes I try typing so fast that I miss out/type the wrong things then read the post after and think 'stupid mare'.

It’s good for texting, but not for a message board.

I’m sorry but I don’t read some posts where text speak is used.

Yea! Bring back proper English - I text a lot but always do it in correct English :- " :- "

I don't understand it as well

but people do say I am a bit thick :- "

Must admit, I don't like it either.

Am I the only one who still texts using real words then, instead of text talk??

You can add my name to the list.

ONE WOULD SAY,BRING BACK GOOD ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

Hear! Hear!

Absolutely essential to getting one's point across successfully  ;)

Or is it. I find that the trouble with writing is there is no tone.

You could read a sentance ie What did you say. and it can be read in at least 2 different ways ie in a quizzical way or in an irrate way. This is when posts start to get a bit frought because people read things in different ways. I suppose thats when the smilies/emoticons help.

I hate it too. It encourages and promotes misspelling (misspelling can't be helped, we all do it, but there's no need to actively encourage it) and I often wonder what our overseas members must make of it. I can't imagine they can understand it at all.

I know this isn't strictly text speak, but whilst we're on the subject (sort of) has anyone looked up the actual meaning of the word, 'hun'. I know it's short for 'Honey' and is an Americanism that has crept in as a term of endearment, but I really hate the spelling of it :b

I've probably offended a number of members now, but I had to get it off my chest!
