It doesn't worry me if people want to shorten honey but I think of Atila the hun

With two teenagers in the family.....you have to be able to understand it...  but I hardly use it myself, only when I text them back...

it should never be used on a forum in my opinion.

Hear! Hear!Absolutely essential to getting one's point across successfully    ;)

Or is it. I find that the trouble with writing is there is no tone.

You could read a sentance ie What did you say. and it can be read in at least 2 different ways ie in a quizzical way or in an irrate way. This is when posts start to get a bit frought because people read things in different ways. I suppose thats when the smilies/emoticons help.

Yes, you're right!!! This is the only forum I post on and I do use the emoticons alot. Hadn't thought about it before but using them should help to make sense of what is said and what tone of voice is being used

I tried to learn shorthand many years ago but could never get my head round it  and it takes me ages to decipher some of the texts my friends send

Count me in,I don't know what half the text talk threads mean!!

I usually get quickly onto other threads written in better style,I'm not "with it" enough to understand it,showing my age I suppose.Oh well, never mind.

Postings are difficult to grasp the meaning of sometimes so I just hope the better interpretation I put on them is correct. I suppose 'll never know if they're not :- "

(Hello...it's one of them there rascally emoticons, must have just escaped!)

Linda

Good thread Stormy - completely agree :D I just give up reading them before I have started

Personally I think you should think twice and post once, 'text' posts just say to me that the poster puts no effort into what they say and probably just as little thought.

Using text for replys is almost as annoying as reading 'in my opinion' in every other thread.

Just giving my opinion, honestly :teehee:

I HATE IT too!!

Surely it's just as easy to type the full words on a keyboard as it is to find all the numbers and letters needed for txt speak isn't it?

Just my opinion though huns!   :- " :- :clown: :clown: :b :* :)) :) :D :D  :luck:

i just quite simply did not understand what was being said because i was brought up to speak and spell properly, text talk is fine if you are 15, but doing it when you are older is lazy

  I AM NOT A OLDIE

(shocked and hurt, 38 is NOT old)
