Hi.
We have a 7 year old King Charles spaniel who constantly barks at night unless he is in the same room as us.
What’s the best way to stop this?
I’ve tried being tough, but after a few hours we always give in and am worried about annoying the neighbours.

The simplest solutions are often best - is it possible that he could stay in the room with you at night?

He sounds distressed so let him stay in the room with you ...dogs dont understand you being tough ..he is barking for a reason...
This time of year we have alot of foxes wandering around outside which disturbs our dogs ....

Management works better than any kind of training. Your dog is distressed and wants to be with you so he feels safe.

My old staffy would only sleep with us , my new puppy is happy in his crate downstairs. If he’s refusing to settle I’d put him in with you. I can understand you not wanting him on your bed, but maybe he will be happy on his own bed beside you . Good luck

A. if you can keep him in the same room.

B. my advice with neighbours is to get in first before anyone complains go round with flowers or a card and apologise say your dog is having a bit of a wobble and you will get it sorted asap , then thank them for being so lovely and understanding...
It tends to disarm people.
