hi,ive just had 1 of my whippets pts due to cancer, now ive only got 1 her sister who as been together all their llife.she was in kennel but ive moved her in the house now shes on her own.shes been find except when we go to work shes been barking and howling .any ideas how to stop this .ive thought about getting another freind for her ,but weather or not that will work or not.

I too am in a similar position, although mine have always been house dogs so maybe less reliant on each other, but Bluebell is terribly depressed since my old boy Alfie was put to sleep last week, she will not run, play or eat.

I am making sure she is never left for long, she still has Daisy but thats not the same as Alfie. - its hard work but I don't leave them for more than 2 hours, sometimes asking people to come in to see them.

Neither Daisy nor Bluebell has barked or kicked up a fuss, but they are just so sad.

I've been trying to take them for lots of long walks to different places which wears them out and gives them new smells and sights.

Whippets do crave company though and if your little one has never been totally alone it must be dreadful for her, only you know if you are in the right position to take on another whippet though.

A new puppy occupies their mind and helps with the grieving process

It may not be so easy to introduce a new adult/youngish whippet, but a puppy should present no problem to her. As Clair says, it's just whether you are in a situation to take on a pup or not

I am so sorry you have lost your other whippet. It's a very sad time for you all :( and I do hope things improve very soon for you :huggles:

we lost one of our greyhounds a few years ago and all our dogs greaved we left it a couple of weeks and got a new pup and within 2 days all the dogs were better again dogs do greave but they move on and if you wants another dog then I would go for it. if shes never been an only dog shes going to be wondering what the hecks going on. good luck with whatever you decied

i have decided to get another dog ,ive been looking about ,am thinking of taking in a rescue whippet or greyhound who needs a good home .dixie my whiipet is a very easy going lass so i dont think it it would be a problem for her to get on with a new freind :) .

good luck to you, does sound like she's feeling very lonely now her best friend has gone and what better than to rescue a dog to fill that space. There's a few looking for homes on here.

So sorry you loss you well loved whippet,so please you are considering getting another  Good luck in your search and i,m sure you will find the right one :D
