I 100% agree with that Kris. In that situation in the park the other day the assumptions I made were more so about the owner than the dogs. I did assume that he was irresponsible because he didn't leash his dogs on the way to the park (along a busy road) and clearly didn't care about other people using the park as he seemed to be just taking them there to do their business (and not clean up afterwards). I assumed that he probably hadn't given any thought to training or socialisation.

:( I truly hate to hear stories like this, there is never an excuse for irresponsible ownership regardless of breed!

Pointing the finger at any one group of breeds has proven to do nothing but make a breed group more desirable to undesirables, look at the situation we have now, people flogging what the press have made us believe to be pitbull type left right and centre, when in reality they are crossing different breeds to get the red noses and the other press stated Pitbull Characteristics, a very risky game, breeding mastiffs with bull breeds to create a pitbull looking dog, the dogs dont ask for this.

What must change is the perception that the dog is to blame, regardless of breeding, us people made all dogs what they are today, shame on us if we now turn around and shun the ones that are no longer socially acceptable, we all must be responsible for our actions and those of our charges, punish the people that use the dogs to bolster their ego not any breeds as a whole.

You want to bring in licensing for a certain type of dog, no, sorry, breed specific isnt fair and doesnt work, the crosses and mixes would slip the loop, all dogs for licensing? In my opinion that wouldnt work either, all it would do is create revenue from those responsible owners that the licence isnt needed for, the irresponsible owners wouldnt get one!

Moving forward promoting responsible ownership and punishing those that are not responsible is the way forward that will make progress!

PS here is my Ripley, bred, trained and shown by myself, he is an entire KC registered Staffordshire Bull Terrier, very stable boy, absolutely superb with other dogs!

A few may have seen him at the lure events and regardless of being snapped at a couple of times by the running dogs he has never retaliated!

Here he is getting ready for a KC show
